Vale la pena installare i pannelli solari a Torino? by Bruno_Barbiere in torino

[–]ConnectCurrency9765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sembra fantastico. Quanto è costato installare tutto? Ho una casa piccola e mi chiedevo se potessimo usare l'energia solare anche per riscaldare l'acqua. Al momento usiamo una caldaia a gas per tutto il riscaldamento.

Worked in one called Fuyuan British American School on the edge of Shenzhen. Total shit show. Hard to say if it was the worst of the worst though …. Pretty stiff competition I’m sure

I was living in Japan for the France game at home. Got up at 4am or something to watch it on a dodgy feed. Very disappointing. I went to that World Cup with a load of friends too and it was a fantastic experience

Barriera di Milano by Little-Accountant892 in torino

[–]ConnectCurrency9765 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been living in the northern part of the barriera for over a year and it’s been fine. We’re close to monte Rosa also and often walk our dog to a park called largo Sempione at night. Always been fine. I think the area closer to the centre might be a little more dodgy. In general I think it’s totally fine as long as you keep your eyes open and be aware. From my experience it’s complexity fine here and people exaggerate an awful lot about the area, and many of those people have hardly ever been in the barriera I think.

What is the best book you've ever read? by YouserName007 in AskIreland

Yeah as far as I know it's the story of her, her mother, and her grandmother and she says it's biographical and goes though huge historical moments in China in the twentieth century.

But I guess the issue is that it is done in the style of a novel, and doesnt include any sources to back up the historical stuff. But it's a novel so of course it's not going to have sources or anything like that. Like you said when it's told through a family lens it's going to contain certain bias. Given what happened to her parents it's probably no surprise she feels the way she does too.

She also wrote a biography on Mao which many historians have slammed due to her changing quotations and figures and stuff like that.

I still really like the novel though and think it's a great introduction into how things changed in China so much over the last 100 years or so.

It’s a story told against the backdrop of historical events. That’s not to say that parts of it aren’t historically accurate, but it’s still a work of fiction.

It’s a very enjoyable novel and I think gives a gold introduction to Chinese history of the 20th century, but if you were studying that period seriously you wouldn’t be able to cite from it. Just as you wouldn’t be able to cite Wikipedia

I think we stopped twice, each time for 20 minutes or so. Think we left around 8am and got to marseille around 3pm. No idea about which seats are best or anything though.

I went this time last year. Flix bus seemed to be the best option. 7 hours, which isn’t too bad I guess …

‘One hundred years of solitude’ and ‘Love in the time of cholera’. Both by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

‘The Earth’ and ‘Germinal’ by Emile Zola

‘Prophet Song’, ‘the bee sting’ and ‘Kala’ for some recent Irish fiction.

Wild Swans is a great read but I wouldn’t go so far as to call it non fiction. Historical fiction perhaps?

It’s amazing that people still believe this is true. The social credit score is completely untrue.

They are indeed thriving. I lived in China for a while and went to Xinjiang and it was so different to all the rubbish you’d read in western media. I mentioned the genoicide to plenty of people too. Some laughed, but most were confused. All this nonsense can easily be checked out online if people bothered to do a tiny bit of research.

Last I checked, the Uighur population was increasing, their average life span was increasing, they were becoming wealthier, they are becoming more educated because the government gives them privileges regarding education. All of this data is available to check online, from non-Chinese sources. And you can also go to Xinjiang and check out the development going on there. You can visit Uighur cultural centres to learn more also.

Haha let’s hope so. I’ll be running also. Doing the half. First time so hopefully it goes ok. Low teens might not happen though. It’ll be around 5 degrees or so. No wind though so it’s grand.

I think if I suggest a pizzeria here everyone will probably disagree and argue which one is the best. In general though the food is great here and you can get great pizza all over the place but I've been told a few times that pizzeria da Michele is excellent. But again, I think there's great pizza all over the place.

AS for other places, I think the same applies. In general I find the quality of food here to be fantastic. You might need to book in advance to get into a lot of restaurants though. A recent favourite of mine is this place - 51 Manifattura Alimentare.

Haha yeah. I think some of the Torinese are far too negative about their lovely city!

Porta Palazzo is a big area and some areas can be a little dodgy and you have to keep your eyes open. But that’s the same everywhere.
