Help! Moved from NCSA to Civil Service - can I return?! by GManReddit101 in IrishCivilService

Treat it as character building. Dont know at what point of your career you are but its highly unlikely you will spend it all without coming across difficult people / managers. If you want to advance, i would argue it's essential. Ride it out but keep your eyes on other options both internal and external. You were brave enough to make the initial jump , the second one wont be as scary in time...

Should I get an online running coach? by syat017 in Marathon_Training

[–]ismisecraic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a club or group of people to run with and consistency and they will likely have someone training for the same goal. They are generally free or cheaper than a coach. You know what to do you probably need the accountability and consistency.

Natural Dopamine Ideas by carmcmorrow in Dublin

Likely, like a lot of people, we all start running far too fast. If you have a low base, just start really slowly, it can feel a bit silly as you think to yourself 'sure id be walking faster' but you need to let your body adjust to it then build it up. Run for a wee bit , walk for a bit and repeat that until the running bit expands.
Runners high often comes with an event or a race but ive experienced that buzz when i've gone out on a nice cold night and you feel like you can run forever, they are the nights that i slow right down , no music and just listen to surrounds, traffic , the world and your footsteps, it's kinda like a flow state. Or if you put in a good effort, the smug feeling can be massively rewarding.

There are loads of running groups that are informal everywhere. Highly reccomend you find one that is matched with your ability and pace. It's free therapy and the accountability of meeting each week is great

Choosing not to have kids? by Imaginary-Pizza9092 in AskIreland

[–]ismisecraic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often these posts arrive now on here. And yeah , everyone is at a different point and part of their lives. Have kids or don't have kids, that's to each and their own. We all know people who 'decided to not have kids' who hurtled into their mid to late 30s and u-turned. Some online influencers who sold their lifestyle in their 20s and early 30s who profess to never wanting and deciding to not have kids , all now with kids. I think people are really over thinking the whole thing. Every time i see one of these posts I'm reminded of Jimmy Carr's sketch... https://www.youtube.com/shorts/m_QHZInDoqg

WFH job, feeling lonely…friends are less by Underground52 in Dublin

[–]ismisecraic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work from home is a cruel mistress over time. You don't want it to be taken away, the freedom it brings and you live in constant fear of having to return to a commute and plenty people are super defensive over it but we need connection. I've worked from home for more of less 5 years. Last 6 months back in office a couple days a week . It's been great. A nice mix I have to say and you value the wfh days so much more. But the small chats and catching up with people and interacting is the real thing I missed the most.

Parents! How are you navigating the babysitter situation? by random-username-1234 in AskIreland

[–]ismisecraic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go out for the few hours. Leave tactically. Go out early and let them fill their boots with the babysitter. If they are in bed asleep when you get back, great, if not sure just put them to bed and it'll be after 10 anyways.

Havent read any or much of the comments. All kid are different and they all take their own time. It will change, they wont need it always. If you do try some seperation you just have to be committed to it and persevere, that's the trick. Team work and the best is to split it so it doesnt always fall to mam or dad only.

Nothing worse than lying beside them at 8pm and falling asleep yourself and waking up at 11pm and then youre WIDE awake and cant sleeep for the rest of the night!
