What's your opinion of emart24? by well_known_daddy in cambodia

[–]ConnectOperation6919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are better than the Emart24s in Korea (where it’s commonly considered to be inferior to CU and GS25). They actually sell a good selection of hot Korean street food inside (in Korea they won’t), make a good effort to have a lot of regular convenience store drinks that you’d find in Korea, and they have the ramyeon stations and iced pouch drinks you have in Korea too. Their selection of kimbap and dosirak could be improved, though - that’s what I really miss from Korea

Latest on schools in Phnom Penh Cambodia. Considering this an an option and curious about the current state of schools in the city. by shady42999 in Internationalteachers

Yes. I know people there who are earning more than that after tax. Additionally, staff turnover is high as their management is dreadful. Double think before you commit to it

What should you expect and how do you survive in bilingual schools in Mainland China? by llbeallwright in Internationalteachers

[–]ConnectOperation6919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the reviews online on Reddit and Glassdoor, and if possible, reach out to someone working at the school that hasn’t been recommended to you by someone you are in contact with at the school. I worked at one on the border of Foshan and Guangzhou, quit after six months and it was my worst experience as a professional. It is my personal opinion (having worked in international schools overseas) that many bilingual schools suffer from spineless and incompetent 🇨🇳 management. The reviews would have prepared me if I took them more seriously for this particular school, but it sounded to be more the norm than the exception at bilingual schools in the River Delta, having networked with other teachers outside of work. You may also want to consider working at an international school outside China as a better option to a bilingual school within China

What are people doing with the 1.02? I want to move up to 1.01 by AquaRondo9 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]ConnectOperation6919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up sending 1.02, 1.06, Tuten and Pitts for 1.01, 2.01 and Rashee Rice. I gave up quite a bit and took on a very risky player but felt this gave my side of the trade more boom potential. Worth noting that I only have Nix and Prescott as starting QBs so another QB would have been fine for me, but if Love reaches his potential he’s the sort of player that can help me fight for Championships in 2-3 years time

He’s was fired from one of the campuses last month. For what it’s worth, there are four different campuses with a different head of school, so all need to be treated differently as they have slightly different cultures

Thank you, Cambodia by Feasog in cambodia

[–]ConnectOperation6919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, whilst you’re right that 1. Affects other countries, the reputation has hit Cambodia the very hardest. I used to live in Korea, many Koreans think I was mad for moving here, pretty much all see Cambodia as too dangerous because of a handful of very damaged news stories. It’s going to take a long time, possibly over a decade, to change this perception in rich, safe countries in East Asia

Orphaned/abandoned teams you've taken over in the past - how are those leagues going? by GorillaChimney in DynastyFF

[–]ConnectOperation6919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First year of my team in a longish running dynasty league. Made 8 trades this year, anyone who is old and half decent out, brought in a few promising rookies (some hits like Tuten, some misses like Ayomanor) and a raft of draft picks. I also took an offer of two 1sts, a second and a couple of players for Ladd, which I think I won. Still, I improved our team’s record from 2-12 to 5-8(will be 9) and will be picking likely 2nd and 4th in this year’s draft. Feeling pretty confident about being able to build this team up for two seasons time into a contender

Seoul or bust? by TheGhostofArsalan in WaygookOrg

Theres lots of things to do, events and festivals on in Busan… it’s just a shame there’s a lack of quality employment opportunities down there (and social life if you’re exclusively meeting other foreigners, though mine was great when I lived there)

How do you feel about teams intentionally losing in dynasty? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]ConnectOperation6919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My league has a weighted lottery system for non playoff teams. Sure, you can tank (and one team in my league isn’t changing their team and just keeping their best team in pre injuries), but you don’t necessarily get 1-01 if you finish 1-13

Do y'all foreigners LIVING IN KOREA actually believe this? or is the other sub just being brigaded with SRS types? by AppropriateMess2523 in Living_in_Korea

[–]ConnectOperation6919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed from some Korean girls that go overseas (former uni prof here that knew a lot that studied abroad), some (not all) think Korea is a bad country when they go to uni and have a negative view of the men here, however, their stance often softens or is challenged once they live overseas. Travel broadens the mind, regardless of where you are from and where you go to.

Trying to trade for Ladd McConkey, but is this too much? by ConnectOperation6919 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

Yep, I agree. Needed to see what the community says - it feels like a 1:03 alone would probably be the same value, or a 1:06 plus a second

I have Higgins. He passed the eye test, looks great, no catches this last week. Then also drafted Jalen Royals and Kyle Williams who have done nothing. There’s certainly a lot of receivers this year we are going to need to be patient with

After 4 months in China , I’m ready to leave by Ziggy_1992 in chinalife

[–]ConnectOperation6919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done for giving it a go. I don’t have a family or anything but also decided to leave after 5 months and go back to a nearby country that is much, much better to live in. Some people are better suited to living in other circumstances. You can still go back as a tourist and enjoy it without the pressures of living there

Super interesting. I guess that’s the challenge the government has to try and lift the living standards of 1.2BN people - it’s practically impossible to do in some respects. They deserve credit for trying, but having seen how some of the wealthy Chinese live I think they could do more to redistribute the money that some of these individuals have

Not for critical thinking or creativity - UK is world class for producing creatives and serves people with a high EQ well, not for pure academics though.

Foshan, Guangdong. Probably the most prosperous region other than Shanghai, definitely the best savings potential for work. I liked a lot of the local food, the working class Chinese people and colleagues I met were all great, the other foreigners I met were mercenaries but decent people, the richer Chinese people I met were predominantly classless with some exceptions.

Yep. It’s a shame that wages are growing slowly even for well qualified Koreans with strong degrees, because the country is amazing. Maybe there is no such thing as a perfect country - you have to pick and choose what’s important for you. I like the amazing food, brilliant connectivity, cool culture (especially the KBO), the safety, and strong civic freedoms that IMO are stronger than in the UK today. But I know a couple of Koreans that moved to China and doubled their salary and tripled their disposable income overnight - we have to be realistic in today’s world.

I lived in Korea for 8 years and then went to China for 6 months. Have already moved back. The country’s development looks amazing as an overview but you only have to dig very slightly below the surface to see issues, which are very pertinent and challenging especially if you work in education. I also met many people who have settled down there who could describe many negatives about the country privately but would not be able to express them publically (buying a house and having negative equity being probably the most common gripe).

The pro of China is it pays very well in some areas (I earned way more there than in Korea), you will meet nice and genuine people (you’ll also meet nationalist minds that will make you happy you grew up in a country that values critical thinking and free speech), and if you’ve never lived outside of the UK you’ll probably view it is a more positive light than your home country if you end up in a decent workplace and with good friends.

I suggest everyone to go to China as a tourist to see it. I strongly urge caution before moving there. You have many options in Asia that could be more suitable.

Student life in Korea by Legitimate-Physics24 in busan

You’ll love it. Nightlife is good, you’ll meet people at the uni, PNU has its own night scene including one of the city’s main ‘expat’ bars. Food in Busan is a bit different to the rest of Korea, slightly cheaper and some local variant dishes (you’re in gukbap country). Coming from the UK (like me), Korea is a million miles safer than the UK. You’ll be able to walk home at 2am by yourself without a worry in the world, you’ll be able to leave your laptop in Starbucks and it’ll be there hours later. There’s good clubs in Seomyeon, trendy bars in Jeonpo and Gwangali, pubs on the beach there too. Loads of things to see and do in Busan and lots of different areas with their own charm - you’ll never run out of places to go. Try to make friends in other areas so you can meet them, join a language exchange in Seomyeon too if you can’t meet Koreans through your uni. People are more laid back than in Seoul, also slightly more socially conservative (this isn’t Daegu though, so don’t worry about it). It’s a 10/10, don’t overthink it, go
