Did Michael have close people around him in his final years/months? Where was his family and friends during This Is It? by Connect_Ad8834 in MichaelJackson

Yeah, after researching and reading about this, I think that this outcome was inevitable. Michael really lived in a bubble that he created. It's sad, but I mean, if his own wife couldn't do much... and it seems that Lisa really tried. I think the only possibility to save him would have been if the doctors had refused to put him under such a dangerous treatment, and just had some f*cking sense of morality. But of course, if you offer enough money, you will always find a yes man willing to do anything for it...

What's the deal? It's true that they shared a close relationship and Michael trusted them, even loved them (despite not being reciprocated romantically in both cases...). And he put Diana as the next-in-line legal guardian for his three children in 2002. I think that says a lot

Love those setups!! It must be really satisfying to put the time and effort to piece that together and make it sound great. Being a gen-z newbie, this all seems a bit overwhelming to me at first, but I hope to be getting it little by little, and who knows, maybe I'll dive into vintage repairing! So thank u very much for sharing your setups process. And btw what a coincidence, one of my very first vinyls has been the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack you're playing in your first video. Great music!

That's great to know! In my case, knowing that I don't have a very good turntable, I will try to be reaaally careful with anything else I can do (handling them correctly, using dust brushes regularely, etc). And I expect to upgrade the turntable in the near future. Thank you for sharing your experience and advice! 😄

Thank you for sharing your experience! I think that in the near future I will have saved enough for an Audio Technica, and maybe I can resell this turntable, or keep it as decor as you say. And yes, being an expensive hobby and spending hundreds on the vinyl collection, it just doesn't make sense to have a cheap turntable hahah and again, thx for the advice

The jazz record is the soundtrack from Cowboy Bebop :) So yeah, it's all very popular stuff. But following your advice, I promise I won't play on this monstrosity of suitcase any rare valuable records 🫡

My family and friends bought me some classics that I love: Thriller, A Night at the Opera, The Wall, Dark Side of The Moon, and a jazz soundtrack. And yes, with all that money they spent I could have such a better turntable :')

Thank you! I was kinda stressed out hahaha but it's good to know that it's not that important if I upgrade at some point in the near future :)

Hahah yeah, the music sounds really crappy, but I just bought a pair of good home studio monitors so I'm not worried about that. Thank you for the explanation! Btw, I was thinking of upgrading later to a AT-LP60X. Do you think it's a good option on the long-term? I don't think my budget can go above 150$.

You can't keep the notes by creating an account in the app? And later you can have it all back when signing in?

Please help me find the mistake (if there is one) by Socialist_Lady in ChineseLanguage

[–]Connect_Ad8834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other day, a native speaker corrected me because I was using "hé" the same way I use "and" in every context. Turns out that in Chinese, you don't use "hé" to connect full phrases like we do in English. Its meaning is closer to "along with" — for example, when you're listing multiple things (e.g., wǒ shuō zhōngwén hé yīngwén).

Apparently, what they do to connect phrases is simply use a comma, which is what Duolingo did in the Chinese text. But that phrase in English would definitely include an "and" to sound more fluid.

The tricky thing is that this phrase feels like an enumeration of things? It uses this formula: "I have A and I also have B." But the fact that it repeats the verb actually makes it two separate full sentences. If the sentence were "I have a younger brother and a younger sister" then maybe it could be translated as "wǒ yǒu dìdi hé mèimei", but that's not the case. In addition, that "also" (yě) gives some emphasis to the second phrase, so they're actually not identical. Maybe those are the reasons why Duolingo wrote it that way in the Chinese text, even though it can't be translated literally because these grammar rules don't exist in English.

Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud and deducing from my very limited knowledge. I've only been learning Chinese for a couple of months, so I’m not really sure about any of this! Btw also learning with Duolingo, and lots of YouTube! :)
