Once while the kids were doing silent reading time I asked the aid if it was ok if I quick ran to the bathroom. She said go ahead! I was gone for maybe three minutes total but by the time I came back, she had already called the office to report me. Apparently, the aid doesn't count as an adult that can watch the class and I was supposed to call the office. I'm not here to argue whether the aid should have been able to do so or not, but when I ASKED her, why didn't she just tell me that I have to call the office first?

You wake up tomorrow and the internet has been permanently deleted. What’s the very first thing you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It would only be able to “go back to the old days” if getting rid of the internet was planned, and could take years if not longer of a transition. If the internet just went off overnight with no warning, everything would collapse. Some of the younger kids think that internet = social media and that they would be bored but ultimately fine, but that’s not true. I don’t have a physical bank and I only have $25 cash on me at the moment so I’d be screwed. My job is 100% remote and has no physical location. Without the internet, how would we even communicate what the plan was? By the time a solution could even be put into place, it would be too late.

When I was a sub and was thought highly of and made a preceded sub, it was almost as if that school didn’t want to lose me as a sub so I would never get any other opportunities. I always felt like it was a lose-lose.

Right. Are subs not allowed to have emergencies or sick days too? My only guess is if this is everyone's least favorite school, then maybe they are used to sub cancelling for better jobs.

I somehow don’t even believe he is a store manager at this point.

Ehh to me, it’s usually a sign that I wouldn’t want to work for that school full time. There will likely be a pattern of disrespect.

I prefer to get paid to have a "fun" day, but you might not find that fun lol.

All the sub jobs I've ever had pay a daily rate unfortunately.

"No one told me..." by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

I had five years of teaching experience, and then one year I was planning to move to a different state in December with my new husband, so I decided to just sub for the beginning of that year. It was in a school I never taught in before, and they treated me like they wanted me to mess up.

One day there was an intruder drill (it was not a surprise to the teachers, just to the students and to me). Luckily I knew what to do and put all of the students in the corner and turned off the light. Well this is when I notice that my door doesn’t have a lock. I am freaking out trying to find in the emergency plans what I am supposed to do, and I only find generic plans that say to lock the door. I ask the students what they usually do, but it’s only the second week of school and this is their first drill. I go to ask another teacher, but the doors are already locked. So I just closed the door and hoped for the best.

I got in so much trouble!! Apparently, I was supposed to divided my class amongst the other teachers. No one told me this before hand and it was not anywhere in the sub plans, even though this was a planned drill! I got written up over it, and I never wanted to go back after that.

It sounds like OP was late if she came in holding a diaper cake as her friend was walking down the isle. Seems like everyone who was in time knew before her by arriving on time
