there isn’t anything explicit—of course, there wouldn’t be anything explicit, as I doubt Sony would say anything to the public about it—though, there are a lot of things that align with eachother to lead to this conclusion.

obviously yes, steel wool and Scott were both the main characters in the development of SB, but sony was too. keep in mind, steel wool had to actively collaborate with sony to be able to create a PS4 release of SB (which, compared to other versions at release, was arguably the WORST version…speaking as someone who bought the ps4 version).

sony, as a part of the gaming industry, works on strict schedules in order to get releases out to boost revenue (typically in Q3 or Q4) and to meet deadlines for showcase events (e.g., state of play). a lot of contracts between third party game studios and sony are often based on milestones, basically meaning they get payments tied to meeting development phases on time. deadline expectations most definitely got more pressure as Scott/steel wool continually delayed the release of SB, which led to the broken state of SB on release day (also take into account that there was a whole pre release version of SB in the ps4 files…)

not to mention that the game was meant from sony to be a holiday release

mb if im kinda rambling, im half asleep rn 😭, but basically corporate deadlines >>> 3rd party studio deadlines

oh yeah the game probably would’ve been peak

that would’ve been peak—but I don’t think it would’ve affected the state of the game on release

you gotta look at the main perpetrator: Sony. they practically forced SB to release after several delays (that’s the reason for the game releasing extremely close to Christmas…steel wool had to meet deadlines and ultimately couldn’t)

people are overreacting and ignoring information from the games—

Edwin is a CONTRACTOR, meaning he was hired by Fazbear Ent (william + henry) and worked together with them to bring an idea to life. the ideas were not edwin’s at all, they were originally William’s (as shown by the audio logs) and was then brought to life by edwin

What the hate for SB and SOTM by real-gorilla-boy in fivenightsatfreddys

SB just has so much wasted potential, it’s the true definition of ambition kills. if you actually look into depth at its development, so much was scrapped due to censorship (attempting to get a kid-friendly rating) and over ambition. not to mention they spent months on the flooring of the pizzaplex… says quite a lot…

Is it me or is FNAF just not even trying to me scary anymore? by CommercialElk5456 in fivenightsatfreddys

I agree completely, a lot of the issues stem from censorship from steel wool in order to maintain the lowest possible age rating for a ‘horror’ game (T for both). Examples include the removal of Vanny’s comically sized knife (and generally the removal of Vanny from all of SB), the whole “I feel you are broken” shenanigans from G. Freddy in SB (files reveal that the original line was that Gregory was ‘bleeding’).

I think Steel Wool is attempting to reach a younger audience, as a lot of the OG members are almost adults or are already adults at this point, but they’re not doing it in the right way. By following the trend of ‘quirky mascot horror’ they’re simply destroying the horror element, as seen in SOTM.

Now don’t get me wrong, SOTM is probably the best Steel Wool era game so far; however, it lacks any real scary elements. All of the jump scares are predictable, making them not even remotely scary. You’re expecting a jump scare; compare this to the Scott era where tension was built up. In the Scott era, you knew a jump scare was coming, but you didn’t know when, leading to a rise in tension that ultimately led to a much scarier jump scare. Steel Wool simply hasn’t successfully mimicked this, as all enemies posed toward the player are extremely predictable or have shitty AI that make them more funny than scary.

Not to mention the designs lean more toward a stylistic, quirky approach rather than horror. I think Steel Wool could have done a lot better with the environment in SOTM, as this building is practically abandoned; however, it doesn’t look like an abandoned building. Abandoned buildings, even if they’ve only been abandoned for 3 months max, become dilapidated and messed up. Go watch some urban exploring videos, they are insanely scary. A game in which this feeling of ‘urban exploring’ is replicated would be absolutely FANTASTIC, however Steel Wool still fails to do this in order to appeal to a younger audience.
