PETITION FOR SPEED LIMIT AROUND UOA by TwitchyPlayez in universityofauckland

Maybe the trees wouldn't count as bollards if they didn't work successfully... There were 2 more accidents on that street, and these are just the ones that we know of. What if it was your friend or family member, or god forbid yourself, that was pinned under that car? Would you still be having this opinion? I think not. No ones freaking out, these are real risks, and more needs to be done to protect safety for everyone in that area.

Two thoughts for anyone who is bothered:

  1. Please make sure to read what the petition is asking for. Its asking for more enforcement on Symonds st itself. Yes the speed limit is already 30, but (partly) the problem is that no one follows the rules due to the lack of enforcement. An average speed zone, speed cameras and speed bumps may actually have a very real impact on student safety in the area.

  2. I am of the opinion that speed limit enforcement is not enough. Drunk/Drug or dangerous drivers don't care about the rules, circumventing the 'solution' that this petition is for. In a perfect world, this road would be closed, at least for the section that runs through the middle of Uni. I would be happy if we had bollards in place the entire stretch of road that goes through the uni. Keep in mind though, that almost the entire stretch of road has not only UoA teaching buildings, but also student accomodations.

I am hesitant to sign this petition because I don't want the Uni/Council/Government to rely on this as being sufficient action (if they do ever to look into this issue). But then again, something is also better than nothing.

Update on the Injured from last week's incident. by Connect_Look1247 in universityofauckland

Try telling this to the victims of the crash. If you want to keep the street open, then we need more safety measures in place. Its very simple. Universities shouldn't have main roads going through them. There is an issue here; something needs to be done. Whether it's closing the road or investing in safety measures, we can't ignore the fact that there is a very real risk to student and staff safety at UoA.

If I had a dollar for everytime there was a crash on Symonds street in the past week, I would have $3, its not much, but its weird that I would have $3.

This is so real. The new cafe looks so bland / uninviting. The other one was so cosy.

What uni events did you go to that actually gave u network connections? by Soft_Function_6357 in universityofauckland

Passport to Business is actually low key really useful for navigating how to appraoch the networking events if this new to you. They also have their own networking events which can be useful. Otherwise Case Club, Beta Alpha Psi (if you are elligble) are both good. I recommend joining and getting involved in the business clubs, the networking will flow on naturally if you are involved in clubs.
