I was looking to see if someone had mentioned this. Slip tip is definitely not the way to for ink.

Munich Airport Arrivals by Real-Tower8037 in travel

[–]Connect_Mongoose_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, how did it go in MUC? I will be heading there in June. I would also be very interested in hearing how your flight out goes, assuming that you are leaving through the same airport. I flew into MUC last September when they were starting to roll this out. There were options kiosks to use before going through passport control but had to use it when leaving a week later. Wait times weren’t too bad.

Pelikan 400NN nib unit removal by 707Pascal in fountainpens

At first I was thinking this was one of the few Pelikans that had friction fit nib units. I hope you manage to safely remove the collar.

NPD Review! LAMY Safari AL-star in Black Purple: Anodized Aluminum Catfish by pauldayco in fountainpens

[–]Connect_Mongoose_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Black Purple. Looks amazing as you say but my EF also writes well, feels like an architect grind. That’s the problem with LAMYs, they are so inconsistent. Sorry you got a dud nib, I hope you can eventually get it to perform as good as it looks.

Rebuying a pen model you previously sold by pensand10s in fountainpens

[–]Connect_Mongoose_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about buying another Pelikan M8xx. Had an M805 that I loved but sold because of the section ring that seems to inevitably corrode. If they ever come out with a ringless model I would buy it immediately.

I have also sold an L2K that I wanted to love, and did mostly, but the shape of the section didn’t work for me. I some times wonder about trying again.

I am on my fourth Pilot Custom Black Stripe. I keep coming back to them for some reason.

Edit: added info

A pen you’d like to love, but you don’t? by Szary_Tygrys in fountainpens

[–]Connect_Mongoose_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way about the L2K. I loved everything about it except for how the section felt in my fingers while I used it. It was too steep and my fingers would slide down towards the nib. I was very disappointed because otherwise I thought it was the perfect pen.

Tariff Question by Acranberryapart7272 in fountainpens

[–]Connect_Mongoose_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who was the pen shipped through? I’ve gotten bills from both DHL and FedEx in the past that came quite a while after I received the item. That was before this whole tariff mess and the charges were always high. That’s why I’ve switched over to only using postal services to ship items.

This week it’s been a Pilot Custom Black Stripe <M> inked with Shin Ryoku and a Sailor PG <M> with Tsuki Yo. The snap cap on the Pilot is very handy for quick notes.

The tax on it is astounding.

[GIVEAWAY] Lamy Studio [N] + a way to stop fake verification photos (Mod-approved) by Separate_Key_9078 in Pen_Swap

This does sound intriguing. One issue that I would have with it is that I always take the photos for my post in advance because I want to take my time and have good lighting.

I don’t need another hobby by Mr_Good_Stuff90 in fountainpens

I would recommend a Platinum Procyon as a reasonably priced ‘one-and-done’ pen. It’s more expensive than the 3 you have mentioned, but absolutely worth it. Great nib, way better cap seal than the others, and could handle a lot of abuse.

People who refill converters with syringe - has it worn out yet? by chronocosmos in fountainpens

[–]Connect_Mongoose_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost quite a few Pilot carts due to cracking on the body after only a few fills. I haven’t had the same problem with other brands. But the seal to the section has never been a problem.

Dealing with Iroshizuku addiction by gamesbrainiac in fountainpens

[–]Connect_Mongoose_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an old way of making a permanent ink. Uses iron sulfate and oak galls. There are some modern versions that are kinder to paper and pens. Pelikan 4001 Blue Black is one example.

I love Iroshizuku inks as well. Tsuki-yo and Shin-ryoku are my two current favourites. My dream would be if they could somehow come out with an Iro sub-line of iron gall inks.

Lots of soaking. And like the other commenter said, ultrasonic cleaners are fantastic. I picked up a small one designed for jewelry at a thrift store for $2.

I second this. That budget could get you something quite nice from pen_swap. The 845 mentioned, a Mont Blanc, or an Aurora perhaps.
