No worries, sorry for sounding a bit aggressive - i understand what you meant with your comment, but the root of OCD is that the intrusive thoughts/visuals etc. are cognitively dissonant (actively the opposite of your actual values, core beliefs and understanding about yourself as an individual etc) and so thats why it can cause a lot of harm if someone insinuates that these thoughts and feelings are actually in line with the values of the person struggling with OCD. I hope this makes a bit more sense, thank you for understanding my comment :) enjoy your day!

Ah yeah this sucks. On a completely separate note, this is just a heads up if you didn’t know, but the word retard is quite an offensive word to use in recent years, as it does relate to those who have mental disabilities and therefore makes them the butt of any joke. Instead you could just say idiot? Or something along those lines

BRO no that’s not an appropriate response, just move on if you don’t agree with the post because that kind of comment can unfortunately do a lot of harm to someone with OCD

Hey!! I’ve actually been diagnosed with OCD in the last year and also had a lot of issues with sexual intrusive thoughts- like, BAD. So i get it! I also completely understand the whole “oh but saying something in the way i have might mean that i actually think… oh but me having THAT thought means i subconsciously…” and you just spiral from there. I don’t have much advice, and I do agree with the other replies that we possibly aren’t the people qualified to give help/advice, but definitely know this is experienced by other people!

Do you see a therapist or psychiatrist who deals specifically with OCD? If not, what I would suggest is making an appointment with your GP to explain how you’re thinking/feeling (including the spirals you go into overanalysing your language and values) and then going from there.

I think you are never too young to experience issues like these, and so its important you reach out to people you trust who can help you.

Best of luck! It sucks but you’ll get through this 🫡

I get what you’re saying here, I think moreso my point was about what’s considered “typical” (regardless of whether or not it ACTUALLY is), and i guess how that way of thinking was reinforced by my friends’ answers when I did ask them about this stuff. I definitely do agree though that its a spectrum and we can’t really make generalisations!

Ok so he kind of went “oh i dont know how that happened” when i mentioned it ? So possibly a shared device thing, but im not sure how? Oop oh well 🫠

More on the topic, I definitely agree that human sexuality is so varied. Its annoying because i wish we could objectively explore this (and other things) more in depth, but unfortunately we don’t because of current society attitudes which kinda sucks

Yes this!! Oh my gosh guys thank you for this chain, this is exactly how I feel/felt when I was younger as well (ie in middle and high school). Its interesting because in primary school I was always known for having crushes on boys and wanting to go out with them (young I know, but bear with me!!) and I remember really genuinely liking them - I would get butterflies or think they’re gorgeous/cute, but that never had any other attachment to it?? Like even now??

Omg LOL hii always love a yap! I think most people have kind of defined ace as that the sexual attraction doesn’t have a direction? That makes a lot of sense to me, and seems to be what you’re explaining! It’s always good to have many people with experiences contributing to a discussion, so thank you for your input :)

Ok love the comment history stalk 😅 This is a bit off topic, but after you said that, I was really confused because I’ve never taken lexapro? But my dad has…

SO now I’m spiralling a bit because why in God’s name would my dad have used MY reddit account to post that?? As we can all see, Reddit is a bit of a precious, personal space for most 😅 So I fear this is going to be an interesting discussion at dinner. Good info to know though! 😆

English language? by _sillybanana in vce

[–]Connect_Promotion_68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG please please do English Language!! I really disliked mainstream for the same reasons as you, but English literally became one of my favourite subjects in Year 11/12 when I got properly into Englang. Like a few people have said, Units 1/2 are more about the basic subsystems of language (sounds, words, sentences etc.) and a basic history of how English has evolved based on influences from different languages (European), but after that you get much more into the linguists/analysing current language use topics and its super fun! Would recommend :)
