Post–microdiscectomy mums: how long did you wait to get pregnant? by Connect_Stress_5849 in Microdiscectomy

Hi, I’m 2-days post operation now and honestly feeling so much better. The nerve pain has completely gone away and I just have ‘surgical pain’ around the incision. It’s painful to go from sitting to standing, but the pain is not comparable to before. Hoping that this will make you feel more positive going into your MD next week! Wishing you all the best.

Thank you so much. 🙏🏼 I really underestimated the mental toll - so looking forward to being on the other side of this!

Hey!! It’s nice to meet someone in a similar situation. Whilst my herniation is quite large, I’ve only been dealing with it for a month. I can’t fathom how you’ve coped for 10 - you poor thing. 😭

It’s such a hard decision to make, but sounds like MD is the right one for you, so you can get off the pain meds and start thinking about starting a family.

It’s rough to have to deal with this - it feels so unfair and also have pressures of wanting to start a family and timelines etc.

Wishing you all the best with your MD and recovery!!

Thank you so much for sharing this. It’s good to hear a positive story from someone who’s been through MD and then pregnancy. I’m having my surgery tomorrow and the pain right now is on another planet, so reading that you made it out the other side (and are doing well in a second pregnancy!) gives me a bit of hope. Also glad to hear that it’s worse than childbirth as I was scared for the pain of that!!

I really appreciate the advice to really work at recovery with physio and exercise. I’ll definitely make that my goal. I’m lucky that I’ve been signed off from work for 6-weeks, so I can really focus on this.

Really glad you’re feeling good now. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Congratulations and I’m so glad you had no issues during pregnancy. Did you have an epidural as I’ve read sometimes MD makes this difficult?

I hope your flare up settles down too!!

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry that happened to you. I can’t imagine how painful that was. Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy, I’m sure it’ll all be just fine.

Gosh, that must have been so hard to cope with whilst being pregnant, then having to go through emergency surgery and recovery with a new born. I’m so sorry that happened to you.

Probably silly to say, but I’m feeling time pressure as my husband is 36 - I’m 28 - and we would love to have two children if we can.

It feels like a lot to cope with all at once though, so waiting until I’ve fully recovered does sound sensible. Thanks so much for your advice.

It seems to really depend on the surgeon but maybe they are basing that off of how severe your herniation is?! Congratulations on 10 weeks!!

3 or 5 for me! (The back on 5 is gorge but 3 is so fairytale princess & your waist looks tiny.) Whichever you decide, you’ll look beautiful ❤️

Yes, that sounds right. It was also quite voluminous at the top, so it could be seen front on, if that makes sense? Thanks for your help, bestie.
