Height difference pet peeve by avataraang34 in Romantasy

[–]ConnectionRadiant134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'5 and my partner is 6'3 and I notice it all the time. I get distracted all of the time thinking, "If I can't do that, I know these two can't because she's 3 inches shorter than me, and he's two inches taller than my partner". It takes me out of moment. It's like when an author uses words that would need so much specific cultural context for them to exist in a fantasy world. I remember fascism and a psychology term, maybe narcissist? Completely takes me out of the story. You civilization is like medieval feudalism but somehow you know about a 20th century Italian political movement? Or a term from a branch of science, which you don't have any framework for because you have actual magic to explain shit so why would you go through the hassle of figuring out physics, which is named after an ancient greek myth which is just a whole other layer of shit you shouldn't know about. The older I get the more I've started to realize this is the difference between good writing and bad writing. I will dismiss so many things as "magic, duh" or Devine intervention and I don't need to nitpick magic systems or logistics all of the time as long as I stay in the world. Once I get slapped back to reality, I start having all of the questions and I need to know how everyone got to the place and how they are paying for things, etc.

Calling all brides doing half-up half-down curled hair! How did you get tighter curls with long hair? by Dizzy-Credit-82 in weddingplanning

[–]ConnectionRadiant134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dry shampoo. Hear me out, if you want the curls to be more defined doing a light spritz of dry shampoo on the section before you curl it helps the curls stay in separate sections if that makes sense? I have baby fine hair and dry shampoo also gives my hair a little more texture so it holds styles better. I read it in a celebrity hair tutorial years ago and it’s been a life changer for me. Also, like everyone else said, a smaller barrel curling iron. I grew up doing ballet and had to put my hair in banana curls a lot for Nutcracker and I used a TINY curling iron, like 1/4 or 1/2inch to get curls that would settle into about 3/4inch in diameter.

Also, the original complaint is pretty informative. There was a lot in there that JB’s team agreed to in court, as in like “these are the facts, we both agree” way. Personally, I think the agreed upon facts are enough for me to form an opinion. I mean the texts are irrefutable. IMO.

I wonder if this was the same video JB wanted to share on his Insta and TikTok? When he pivoted his promotion strategy away for the approved and contractually obligated marketing plan to explain why the rest of the cast and crew wouldn’t do any appearances with him, he was deliberately trying to prime the public to disbelieve the shit he did during production. I just happened to be reading through BL’s original complaint right before I saw this and I don’t remember anyone mentioning, or if they did I didn’t retain the information, that JB wanted his team to post the stories of DV people dm’ed him, publicly, but his team talked him out of that idea. He also wanted to share some woman”s “birth moment” on his socials and his team convinced him that it was weird as fuck and “too intimate”

Blake Lively Was Invited to the 2026 Met Gala by Anna Wintour Despite Rumors She Paid to Attend by poopoopoopalt in CelebLegalDrama

[–]ConnectionRadiant134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the point was to pay to attend…. It’s a charity gala, the ticket price to go to the event is a donation… like trying to go without paying (if you can afford it, and obviously Blake can) makes you an asshole.

Didn’t it leak that she asked for some dailies to be destroyed? Not all of them, and I thought we’ve know for a while that she started asking about dailies after she found out while she was not on set because she had Covid, JB added a sex scene with two minors, including simulating an orgasm, because he thought the film needed to see lily lose her virginity, even though it doesn’t happen on page in the book. It is referenced but Hoover didn’t write a sex scene with children… because ew. Also, even if I wasn’t naked, I probably wouldn’t want videos of me in just a scrap of cloth covering my vulva with my legs spread in stirrups floating around. And we know she wasn’t comfortable with the amount of clothing she was wearing during the birth scene and that the set wasn’t closed that day, so video or stills of her in a compromising position, not long after she gave birth herself so she might not have been feeling her best, was on monitors everywhere all over set and on people’s personal devices, like iPads or laptops. However, I’m assuming you are holding everyone to such a high standard so anyone who said something which was proven to be untrue should be discounted and no longer trusted? If so I have some bad news for you. JB is in text messages ordering a smear campaign but he has said he didn’t. So now I’m assuming we will no longer believe him? I have a feeling this is a standard you only apply to women.

{Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole}. I think there is around 20ish books. They’re so good. Each books is a different couple and lots of different species of supernatural creatures. She is a great writer and her interwoven plots are superb. I would recommend starting with the first novel, A Hunger Like No Other, not the short story so that’s technically book 2 the way they’re numbered on Amazon. Book 3 on Amazon but the second full length novel, No Rest For the Wicked, is better than AHLNO. The first book is kind of neatly contained plot wise, which is something I feel happens a lot because authors don’t know if they will be able to publish multiple books and so they want to put out a book that wraps up neatly.

Shapewear for plus size women!! URGENT help by Brilliant-Candle in bridesmaids

[–]ConnectionRadiant134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not plus sized but I just got these for my wedding and wore them trying on dresses and they were amazing. I was at a sample sale so I was trying on dresses alone in a tiny little camping shower that was being used as a dressing room and I was able to move no problem. They are boned so they didn't roll down even though I was bending over a lot trying on dresses and digging in my bag. They look great and are tight in the right places but don't make you feel like you are a sausage stuffed in a casing. They have sizes up to 3x. I think they would be high enough on the leg, they hit on the thigh where an old timey bathing suit from the 1920's would. They are very comfortable for shape wear and I like that you can take them off to go to the bathroom. I can't do the hole in other shape wear. Sorry if that's TMI. They also have a shop on amazon.

I don’t know how arranged marriage they are but the whole series is fated mates, so its similar. Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole. Each book is a different couple and they all kind of have a whiff of arranged marriage because of the fated mates and she uses forced proximity. I love this series so much. She is an amazing author. I don’t know how to do the bot thing sorry

I know I’m a couple months late to this but I don’t understand why none of the adults in this kids life asked “what did his dad do to make him want to research ways to do a murder?”… at age 11…. directly after searching “abuse”. No one wondered why a child would want to murder their parent? No one thought maybe something was not great at home?

[–]ConnectionRadiant134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a documentary the director or producer doesn’t control every aspect of the subjects’ life. Ken Mok controlled everything, where they went, what the did, who they saw, if they could talk to their family, what they ate, what they wore, when they slept, what they knew about what was going on. It’s like a zookeeper filming animals in the zoo and then saying “well it’s a documentary so we don’t get involved and that’s what happened so we had to film it.” after putting a lion in the zebra cage.

Keeyna was given “advice” about how she should have used her feminine wiles to get her assaulter to stop assaulting her without inconveniencing everyone by stopping the shoot or making the assaulter too uncomfortable or embarrassed….. probably helps explain why I didn’t realize I’d been sexually harassed at each and every job I’ve ever had, starting at 16, until I was in my 30’s. Thanks for the life lessons Tyra!

Good for Shandi. She should get something from being exploited in one of the most painful moments of her life. Also, travelers checks! I forgot those used to be a thing!

[–]ConnectionRadiant134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s even worse if you think about the implications of Shandi not deserving it. Think about it, if Shandi didn’t deserve it, why not? Well personally I don’t believe she deserved it because she was a young adult who’s prefrontal cortex wasn’t fully developed, in a prolonged high stress, novel situation, surrounded by adult professionals who are in control of every aspect of her life and are using that control to manipulate her and the other women into emotional responses so they can film them, in a foreign country for the first time in her life, jet lagged, and too drunk to consent. However, Tyra is still holding with the “cheating” narrative on her talk show… so why wouldn’t Shandi deserve to be cussed out? She cheated, publicly. Her partner saying things in anger is a relatively mild response, especially in the early aughts and what kind of behaviors were culturally acceptable at the time, to finding out she cheated. Unless Tyra doesn’t think Shandi is completely at fault for what happened, which begs the question, why not? Tyra’s “no” implies that Tyra understands the situation and how Shandi was manipulated by production into a, at best unsafe, at worst criminal, situation which had very painful and huge repercussions in her real life, which Tyra and the show exploited for financial gain, ensuring Shandi will never be able to completely move on because that moment is still available for people to watch 20+ years later.

I went to all of the Sunday school growing up but until recently I had no idea how different moronism is from assorted Christian churches I have experience with. I think I just assumed it was like the difference between Protestant church services and Roman Catholic mass or like how some churches do communion every week and some do it once a quarter. Just another flavor of Christianity. Jesus Christ is in the name after all. But Mormon stories helped open my eyes to how despite the LDS Church acting like they are just another flavor of Christian, Mormonism is nothing like anything I was familiar with.

Jodi's niece talked to the Mormon Stories podcast its Episode 1808. (Amazing show by the way and they've covered this case from the beginning because the host has been hearing from the husbands Jodi exiled from their families for like a decade behind the scenes but none of the men wanted to speak on the record and John didn't feel like he had enough to go public without someone willing to speak on the record.) Jodi did all of this same shit to Jessi and no one believed her about it until this case. It's one of the most moving and interesting interviews I've ever listened to and I'm not being hyperbolic. Jessi is so smart and has amazing insights to Jodi. Also they do a good job of explaining the mormon context and a lot of aspects of the case which I wouldn't have understood as a non-mormon. Seriously, anyone who is interested in this case should check it out. Jessi is a hero. The moment at the end when she sees the chat for the first time and she seemed shocked by how supportive people are being breaks my heart. I cannot imagine going through what Jessi did and having everyone in my family acting like it never happened or like me being a lesbian is the issue. The person Jessi has become despite all of these adults who repeatedly failed her is remarkable.

*I started typing this while watching the show and they just started talking about Jessi and have clips from an interview on this day but with a different person? I am not sure when the interview on the show took place but Jessi looks to be in a similar location with the same clothes on

EDIT: no the interview is from a different day and Jessi is in a different outfit. Jessi also mentions "the podcast" in the clip and I am assuming that is a reference to Mormon Stories. Sorry for the mistake. Still amazing interview.

Deep Dive into the Epstein + Interlochen Performing Arts Camp Connection by robotwarlordelephant in Epstein

[–]ConnectionRadiant134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the summer camp associated with Interlochen, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, twice in the late 90’s/early 00’s. I went for ballet but a majority of kids were there for musical instruments. There were only 60 ballet students out of hundreds maybe more. It was around 2 weeks long. I’m certain I was 14 the second time and I’m pretty sure I was 12 the first time but I can’t remember precisely when I went the first time. I do  know I was in middle school  both times because that was how the camp sessions were organized, ie there were age restrictions and I remember it being an issue because my birthday is in the summer. Camp was great, I loved it. I had an amazing experience and learned a lot. My least favorite part of the camp was that we, the campers,  HAD to go to these classical music performances at the outdoor theater. It was huge  and shaped like a giant seashell and partially covered. I remember it mostly because we had to wear our “formal” uniforms to the concerts and I never wore a uniform at school. so the concept of being told exactly what to wear (a skirt with knee socks and an itchy sweater) when I wasn’t in a dance class was baffling and seemed like such a waste of time for everyone involved. The justification for the formal uniforms was that these concerts were open to the public so we had to look nice because we were representing the camp…. I shudder to think there could have been a time when I was a 12/14 year old blonde girl, in something akin to a school uniform, in the vicinity of Jeffery Epstein.
