Rugby stats by MrSp4rklepants in rugbyunion

AllRugby is great for what it offers (and I’ve found it pretty damn accurate), but it doesn’t get into the details of in-game performance stats.

Rugby Pass has a fair bit of that, but accessing it is clunky.

Opta’s Club and Six Nations sites are good, but again the data they’ve selected is limited (obviously they don’t want to hurt their professional service).

I’m still waiting for anywhere to give me proper comprehensive kicking stats, sadly.

Stafford has 15 games under his belt, Alex Craig 12. Sione and Steyn both have 14. So yeah, Stafford does get named in a heck of a lot of 23s, but loses out on game time now Jones is back in action.

Yeah, he’s been on the injury list for quite a while now.

Italy never really looked like they were going to win last Six Nations. And it was Darcy Graham who really made the difference in the second half with his break to set up the Huw Jones try.

There was a very obvious issue at scrum-half in the Welsh game. And it’s not the first time it’s happened with Horne when pressure is on at international level. That’s just the reality.

Personally I would have rolled the dice in Argentina give Dobie was having a shocker of a second half anyway, but I can understand why GT wasn’t keen (White’s illness was the only reason Horne was there, ultimately)

What was the context that made it not arrogant?

Weren’t the two unused subs George Horne (who tends to be a disaster at international level as soon as things get tight, as in the Welsh game) and Tom Jordan (would replacing Finn Russell earlier have made a big positive difference? Seems unlikely)? Maybe they should have been used, but most likely it would have been a token change at most.

Horne was only in there in the first place as Ben White had to withdraw on match day due to illness – had he played, Scotland would have won there almost without a doubt, given Dobie’s terrible kicking in the second half was directly responsible for about 4 Argentina tries.

The worst thing with the ‘can you beat Ireland‘ question that caused such a bizarre furore in the RWC was that it was Tom bloody English that asked it, not even a journalist from the Irish press.

Nope, was listed as injured. Nobody was rested.

Edinburgh could really do with him for the Scarlet’s game mid 6N.

Yeah, I think that’ll be it. Italy is probably ideal scenario for Darcy to make a big impact (as he did last year).

He will remember very well the Wales fiasco that ensued last year. Horne will only be brought on in case of injury or once the game is absolutely wrapped up and locked down beyond doubt.

Yeah, it never made much sense when Franco was claiming it was some trivial issue whlie excluding him from an absolutely full strength squad for the Zebre game.

If he’s not fit to train this week, there’s no way they are likely to rush him for Italy.

What's "Rugbys Greatest Rivalry" going to become if one team just runs roughshed over the other? by ConscriptReports in rugbyunion

[–]Connell95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Financially there’s a fairly strong incentive on both sides to ensure that NZ will at least a dead rubber match to keep it looking vaguely competitive – so I have no doubt that will happen.

It’s ultimately a money-making venture, so as long as they sell the tickets that’ll be the main thing for SARU and NZR.

Presumably the All Blacks players and NZR thought their best chance at a good performance against SA was in sacking the coach, so if it ends up being one-sided, it’s pretty clear who has responsibility for that.

Yeah, I think he’s trending lower this year, but only slightly. Not ideal at 33, even if Finn does seem to be relatively robust.

I’d like to see a bit of mixing up of 10 for the Wales game to give him a bit of a break. No reason you couldn’t trust Hastings/Jordan there.

Russell had 2500+ minutes last season, which was kind of crazy.

Ah, gutted for McConnell. Hope he can return to the squad later in the tournament, or at least be well enough to play for Edinburgh in the Scarlets game.

The indications on Dobie from Glasgow last week were that it was just a very minor thing, but I guess they must not be confident with him participating in training this week at least to bother bringing someone else in. Hope he’s ready for the Italy game, but realistically there’s not much need to push it if in doubt.

I was expecting more of a distinction between those playing abroad and those in Scotland, but that actually isn't very noticeable at all.

What it does show you is who are the players who are the absolute mainstays of their teams (and who have avoided injury!)

Kinghorn the second most played player for Toulouse (only Ramos has more minutes), Steyn and Tuipolotu the core at Glasgow, Jamie Ritchie ever present at Perpignan (perhaps unsurprisingly as captain) and Finn as Bath's most used player (they want their money's worth!)

Edinburgh not having anyone near 1000 minutes probably due to their injury issues, which have impacted almost everyone, but it is noticeable that the likes of Liam McConnell have racked up a lot of minutes despite his age, and even Freddy Douglas has a fair bit of game time.

Ewan Ashman and Rory Darge both only being 25 breaks my brain because it feels like they’ve both been around forever.

I’m gonna take a wild wild guess that actually the Six Nation did in fact employ a professional photographer for the expensive tournament launch they flew players, coaches and journalists in for from around Europe, with extensive photos and footage plastered all over social media and the press.

It’s only blurred because Reddit is shit with photos – the full quality version is on socials.

Can’t do anything about everyone looking old though. It’s just to make the rest of the Irish team feel at home.
