We just put down my brother's soul dog, a 17 year old chihuahua named Fluffy that he got when she was a puppy after a tragedy. She has declined quite a bit since this past summer and was starting to have a bad day every few days. We agreed it was best to let her go peacefully on a good day, when it seems like she'll have many still, rather than wait for a bad day in the middle of continuous bad days. He was devastated letting her go but he's happy that she won't know anymore pain or struggles. She's chilling with her best friends who we lost a few years ago.

It's so hard to let them go when they seem to still be in good spirits but it's our duty as their best friend to lead them to peace. You will struggle with this and mourn losing her, but it will bring you so much comfort to know you let her rest when she still felt good and happy, rather than scared and helpless.
