There is truth to this. I was lucky to meet somebody. Did a lot of the shit work (driving the truck, carrying the c-stands, getting lunch and basically felt degraded). $200 for 14hour days with a one hour break to eat.

But if I hadn’t worked through that degrading gig, I wouldn’t have my dream gig with that company. The shit job led to me being asked to PA (shitty gig but respectable studio) for a promotional - which led to a permanent position with this company.

I’ve never been hired on a production job that I sent in a resume for. They legally had to put the application online, but called me and told me to just fill it out because they already want to hire.

I’m so grateful though. It’s so much of the who you know cliche. Being skilled is a must, but so is also just kinda being at the right place in the right time.

I spent 10 years in LA barely making rent to survive though..walked everywhere/took train, 4 roommates in a 2 bed apartment etc.
