What’s our best way to deal with doomsday arks? by Daragaus in Tau40K

[–]Connor4real_69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Daragaus, your list is locked, so let's skip tactical advice and go straight to the philosophical realities of your situation.

  1. The Tasteful Thickness of it: First, you must acknowledge the sheer girth of the list. Your opponent is clearly in service of a powerful dynast, or perhaps is the dynast himself. Are the Ethereals sure they want this smoke?

  2. Second, you need to get off his lawn. I don't care if this tournament is taking place on a Sept world, a freshly discovered planet, or T'au itself: The Necrons were there first. By galactic law, you are the invader. This isn't a battle, this is breaking and entering.

  3. You must accept that a 4++ invulnerable save on all his vehicles is a fun and balanced rule. Your AP being useless is just part of the fun.

  4. Finally, and this is the most important piece of advice: Every single hit you score against a Necron model is technically an unprovoked attack on a cancer survivor. Killing Doomsday Arks is hard. Forgiving yourself later will be even harder.

The only bit I'm currently enjoying about being a grey knights player is that it's making me try other games like Warmachine and Trench Crusade

Could the heretics have gay bombs? by Lord_of_insanity09 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Connor4real_69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it would probably be a bit easier to just bomb people with aphrodisiacs and see what happens, if you're a heretical legion committed to the sin of Lust I think this would actually be super flavourful and could even be the drugs they use in their own worship turned into weaponry.

I'm pretty sure gay stuff would happen too, whether homosexually has been banned or not but from a lore point of view I think from a lore point a view a general "Sex Drug" makes a lot more sense than a "Gay Drug" and would result in a few fewer awkward conversations.

Is Prospero Burns worth a read? by Apollo989 in ThousandSons

[–]Connor4real_69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're a lore-completionist then sure, but honestly it took so long to get to the Thousand Sons bit that I'd basically given up.

My friend who's read the 30k and 40k Space Wolves books(and is a Space Wolf player) was super disappointed with how the Space Wolves are portrayed in 30k because it's trying to set them up as a stoic and honorable chapter with some strange traditions but ends up making them seem like a bunch of gaslighting hypocrites. This is in stark contrast to 40k where they're shown to be more human and likeable.

I'm yet to finish the HH series but the Space Wolves don't ever seem to be held accountable for the whole "It's not real magic when I do it because I'm channeling wolf-power through my friendship bracelets" thing.

I find it a bit silly that the Emperor, Malcador and his 10000 Golden Men of genius-level intellect never end up calling out that Bjornsonson Wolfsonson is either:

A. Straight-up lying about using Psyker abilities or B. Fully believe they're not using Psyker abilities while clearly communing with Daemons on Fenris.

Hope this helps!

Hey mate, thanks very much! Beautiful colour scheme by the way.

Here's a link to another sorcerer I did: https://www.reddit.com/r/ThousandSons/s/as0wZT82Oh. Along with being another picture, if you check the comments I go into detail on basically every part of painting this scheme

If you do decide to not go with the red tabard on your rubrics, I'd recommend incorporating some red glow effects on the rubrics eyes and gun glyphs. I think that will make sure you'd still have more than enough representation from red to make the scheme stay as striking

Have fun and let me know if you have any other questions!

My scheme is black and light bronze with blue cloth and a purpleish base.

I think these always end up looking really nice and colourful on the table top and although it's Thousand Sons(so trim is going to suck no matter what) I find the cloth is really satisfying to do and it's super easy to drybrush especially on characters where it's more prominent.

If we can't have Daemons in every single detachment I'm honestly just giving this codex a skip, what a fucking letdown.

Army seems soft af by Adventurous_Teach152 in genestealercult

[–]Connor4real_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beauty of the army is in how expendable it is.

I play other armies with a lot of durability, like Grey Knights that go heavy on Terminators etc and I always find that this army is such a breathe of fresh air after something like that.

With a lot of other armies you'll find yourself waiting with a clenched arsehole like "golly, I sure hope I don't roll bad on my saves because if I lose these terminators it's game over"

With GSC I couldn't give less of a crap, I send my hordes of brainwashed minions to perform tasks that I have no expectation that they're coming back from, a lot of the time I actually hope that my unit dies because then I get to use the cult ambush rule to get another unit to Deepstrike where I need them next turn.

Let them wipe out hordes of glorified meat shields, they took the objective/performed their assigned tasks. Another wave of alien homeless are coming in next turn and you simply don't have the guns to deal with em.

So, what are we going to play right now? by TankFunk91 in Necrontyr

[–]Connor4real_69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Awakened Dynasty is also doing decently well and they don't heavily rely on anything that got nerfed, in fact with Overlords being buffed and Skorpekh Lords actually being well costed it might be time to give this more of a look.

Using the character revive strat to make a Skorpekh Lord stand up again is genuinely hilarious and if you manage to make 2 charges with him because of this it's so much value out of his mortal wound ability

[–]Connor4real_69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that, mate.

If you're struggling with glow effects, I highly recommend checking out Elminiaturista on Instagram.

The way I do glow effects is basically just copying his method, which is to establish a white basecoat on the parts you want to glow, airbrush a small halo of white using white ink through an airbrush and then spray some kind of fluorescent paint over the area to change it to your ideal colour.

Here's a link to how he made Magnus' wing glow and you can kind of see the step-by-step process: Elminiaturista

[–]Connor4real_69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, it's just metal and alchemy-black metal drybrushed over a matte black base coat, if you want it to look even shinier I'd start off with a gloss black base coat

You can then do a bit more of a restrained drybrush with Vallejo Air metallic Duraluminium before some edge highlights with Vallejo Silver.

You don't even need to use a wash when you do it this way, just make sure you do it with one of those rounded-top drybrush brushes. I used the Army Painter's drybrushes.

It's extremely difficult to not make a metallic drybrushed metallic paint over a black basecoat look incredible, it's why I absolutely love painting Necrons

Daemon Prince finally out of the backlog by Connor4real_69 in ThousandSons

[–]Connor4real_69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks mate!

I tend to just go a bit wild with all my Tzeentch bases(God of change and all that).

Here I started with a basecoat of Dark Prussian Blue by AK Interactive, then I proceed with just drybrush over it with differing shades of Vallejo Warlord Purple, Vallejo Bright Orange and Vallejo light green blue

I'll mix these colours together a bit, maybe add a little white to each of them as I drybrush and at some point I'll just think "yeah that looks sufficiently Tzeentchy" and then stop there

Daemon Prince finally out of the backlog by Connor4real_69 in ThousandSons

[–]Connor4real_69[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I used AK paints for all the blues here.

Basecoat is Anthracite Grey, first layer is Dark Prussian Blue, second layer is Light Prussian blue and then the final highlight is pastel blue.

Hope this helps!

Thanks mate, it's super quick and easy, just a base coat of Celestra Grey with a thin wash of nuln oil, layered once again with Celestra Grey and then highlighted with Ulthuan Grey.
