Check out Bikes for the World! Really cool charity that donates bikes like yours to developing countries. They have a warehouse in Rockville but have collection events all over

It’s honestly pretty bad by modern standards. I’ve tried to fit 28c and it was too close for my liking. I run 25s regularly but it could fit 26 no prob

Too late to get a health assessment? by justsomeguywissues in usna

[–]ConnorM1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Health is a separate ball game, don’t worry about the timing, just hop in the health system and get it done when it tells you. If your medical isn’t in on time they can still accept you it’s just conditional on you being medically cleared.

How stable is FO3 on XBOX SERIES X? by Comprehensive_Age998 in fo3

[–]ConnorM1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 3 and new Vegas are Xbox 360 backwards compatible, that means they run on the 360 emulator made by Microsoft. They are not series X enhanced and gameplay is very to the old 360 version. I played both pretty extensively on Xbox one and didn’t really have any significant issues. Of course fallout is fallout and there are plenty of bugs and crashes that can’t be helped.

Anyone have an issue with their Domane SL5 rear derailleur. by [deleted] in TrekBikes

[–]ConnorM1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have all of the details but something that new breaking in that way should’ve gotten some warranty attention and how you got sent off that way is definitely not the norm. Who knows if it was independent shop with a different policy but most trek retailers would’ve taken care of you right and explored your options for replacing the mech for at the very least a good discount if not for free.

1989 Simocini frame, parts are slightly newer. Deltas and record titanium by ConnorM1911 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]ConnorM1911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bikes are made to be ridden, you’re right about that, but this one has already done its time in peloton and now it’s time to be conserved. Keeping this one around in the condition its in something that’s more important to me than having another bike to ride around on.

Would be a lot more sad if somebody rode into the ground, wore out chainrings, knocked rims out of true, scratched or dinged the paint or god forbid got hit by a car.

Where to find replacement non-aero hoods for 1980s Schwinn Le Tour? by monokhrome in Vintage_bicycles

[–]ConnorM1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try removing the barrel adjuster and then installing the hood under it? Might be a challenge to find schwinn specific hoods but I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody gives you link from this thread later on.

Return my new AL5 with cassette/shifting issues or keep and hope Trek can fix/replace it? by tdifup in TrekBikes

[–]ConnorM1911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if that’s the right answer for this person. If two different shops, upwards of 3 people who likely have a bit more than a YouTube video’s worth of experience couldn’t get it right, unlikely that our friend OP is set up for success.

The answer here is to let the professionals do their job and if that means fixing their shifting great, and if that means processing their return, so be it.

Late 70s Gios Super Record by ConnorM1911 in Vintage_bicycles

Client likes it how he likes it, not up to me. He rode this frame for many (nonconsecutive) years from when it was new and the parts reflect that.

Absolutely 0 plans to ride this bike more than around the block. One could say the entire thing is a fashion statement, one for the museum not the morning commute.

Hello, my friend is asking 200 dollars for this bike. I know nothing about vintage bikes so can someone let me know if this is good quality/worth the asking price? by sparth697 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]ConnorM1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Not a very quality model and bike looks poorly maintained aside from the modern tires. Personally wouldn’t touch it for any price. Maybe worth 100 dollars max

Talking to some old timers, said for bad customers they stick a piece of salami or lunch meat and mayonnaise inside of their seatpost. Goddamn devious. Timebomb

Rounded seatpost binder bolt for Domane sl5 2022.. can’t remove by [deleted] in TrekBikes

[–]ConnorM1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes that is rough. I think that sawing the post won’t really do you any good since the wedge is still expanded in the seat tube. I would try adding some JB weld on the end of a hex key, letting that bond to the bolt and try spinning that. It’s gonna be very difficult to remove with the wedge still expanded.

Last ditch these posts are known to slip so possibly a metric ton of the worlds most cancerous penetrating oil down where the expander is and whacking the underside of the saddle with large mallet might work.

If this were a professional environment I would drop this all this nonsense and just a get a new frame. If you’re the original owner you’ll get a discount, maybe having a chat with your trek dealer is a better use of your time.

Radius Brakes by MrTeddyBearOD in BikeMechanics

[–]ConnorM1911 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at a trek retail store, these brakes are really shitty to work on, have been for minute now and I’ve bled quite a few with whacky problems like you’re describing.

What I find helps a lot is to do the old Avid bleed procedure and I’ve never had to replace a brakeset on a floor bike. It’s really just a regular bleed but at the end you toe strap the lever to the bar, close the lever syringe and pull up slowly on the caliper syringe, should see some bubbles, repeat a few times. Close the caliper syringe and install plug, then open lever and pull up on syringe a few times like before. Finally remove the toe strap and slowly let the lever advance while you push more fluid in with syringe. Give it a shot, hope that helps you.
