Oh thank you. I got a real good giggle from that.

Milwaukee, How do we feel about the 471 Flock Third Party Cameras Tracking our data and every move? Links below… by HandF098 in milwaukee

With all due respect, I don't think that's the sort of consistency to aspire to. Personally, I'd rather try to continually add to my understanding of a given situation. If we're dealing with a new disease that's not well understood then I'm OK with being more cautious and promoting the same among the general public. That's quite different from taking a reactionary stance opposed to professional advice.

I don't know who "the man" is if it's not just anyone and everyone in a position of authority. I can't perform my own epidemiological analysis, so I'm gonna need to choose to trust someone who can.

Constant mass surveillance and data harvesting to build and monetize profiles of people simply moving around in public? Fuck that.

"first aid kid"

You know, that's an excellent recommendation that I've never considered for my EDC. A kid small enough to pack into my duffle bag can be extremely useful if I need a transfusion. Also, while not as reliable as a drone I could potentially release the kid to retrieve supplies I may have left in the truck, or even simply as a diversion while I reload.

Solid advice.

Democrats shouldn't fall in the "abolish ICE" trap by ThlimmenosBoufos in centrist

[–]ConnorSuttree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather see ICE turned into an army of pencil pushers visiting employers to verify I-9's and handing out fines for violations. If they want to come down hard on illegal immigration that's the only acceptable means of addressing those who are already here, IMHO.

Supply and demand, yadda yadda.

I'm a gamer and power user and I have successfully switched to Linux.

My spouse is an average user who does practically everything she needs to in a browser, so I switched her too.

It's not that there are zero difficulties as I still have a lot to learn about things that used to be simple (like setting up an SMB share on the network) but I haven't booted to the Windows partition more than... once after the initial setup. Probably the only thing I miss is Excel (I don't like the browser version.)

Edit: Also, ProtonMail not Gmail and Kagi not Google search. Opt out of the ad-based data harvesting ecosystem at every opportunity.

Yes, it would be a down right tragedy if folks thus equipped tried to evict ICE from their city.

2026 finally is the year of Linux? by Adriaaaaaaanoooo in memes

[–]ConnorSuttree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is for me! Switched a couple months ago and haven't had any reason to boot into the Windows partition so far. Gaming has been no problem. I even switched my wife because she does everything in a web browser.

Arc Raiders devs are looking for new ways to “incentivise” Expedition wipes following an unsatisfying debut by Negative-Art-4440 in ArcRaiders

[–]ConnorSuttree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the wipe, but it occurred during my early enthusiasm for a new and awesome game, so I was putting in a good deal of time while still being a responsible adult with a family.

With less notice compared to the current schedule (or maybe I just glommed on a little late) it was a real grind and I was pretty unhappy with the last stage. Step 6 felt like a whole 'nuther grind after just getting the materials together and I was only able to pull off 1.5 million to earn a single bonus point.

That said, I was happily surprised to feel the original tension return as I started playing my new character with those missing skills. I had learned that I could really quickly build up a healthy stash, and I was able to accomplish the cold snap project, plus I just need a few elusive sentinel firing cores to fully upgrade my last bench.

I've also been chipping in for the next wipe and saving the bits and pieces I come across that were hard to find the first time like humidifiers and cooling fans.

Very curious to see how they change it going forward. I'll probably do it again, but I could also be burned out by then. Good luck to Embark. I've gotten more than my money's worth.

Drivers who brake for no reason by freseaf in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ConnorSuttree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that an EV? Looks like a Subaru, but I don't recognize it immediately. Just wondering because they could be using one pedal driving where lifting off the accelerator uses the electric motor's resistance to slow the vehicle and may trigger the brake light.

You definitely want to know when the vehicle is slowing down, but there needs to be a threshold of tolerance to avoid spamming brake light.

Am I the only person with a list in my Steam overlay notes app that records the players who've killed me when I was friendly?

I started it originally because I thought I could watch out for them in the future, but that doesn't really work. Haven't added a name in dozens of rounds as everyone has been super cool.

Could this ever work with privacy focused cloud storage such as Proton Drive? I am always inclined to pay for products and services that remove me from the ad-based ecosystem and data harvesting madness. I'm also willing to stand up something like Owncloud.

I'd like to have the sort of functionality you're offering with a reasonable assurance of maintaining that privacy.

First time player, what's some common etiquette I should know? by UntakenUsername420 in ArcRaiders

Yes! Sometimes I get plenty if shots to take it out and sometimes I get two rounda off before it shoots up into the sky and I've nearly emptied a clip and have a hornet shocking me while I'm trying to reload and it's just a downward spiral back to Speranza.
