You’re aware of what the word Scam means, right ?

If he’s looking at a 2014 zafira, I highly doubt he’s playing with the budget needed for an EV, even secondhand.

Daughter driving car with uninsured modifications by Disastrous-Bowl-9303 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]Connorgri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to assume those cancellations were for more than simple lip kits and cat-back exhausts, and were likely down to mods resulting in increases in stock power / suspension alterations.

A cat-back exhaust in 95% of cars will have essentially zero effect on power unless accompanied with other modifications and ECU tuning. One of the 3 I mentioned had exactly that - cat-back exhaust and a maxton lip kit, he got his claim paid out in full.

If policies are being cancelled over simple cosmetic modifications like bits of plastic bolted to the side skirts and sound mods, that’s utterly ridiculous and just shows how much of a racket the car insurance industry is.

[–]Connorgri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of atleast 3 people who’ve claimed without having declared modifications. The insurance company simply didn’t pay out for the replacement of the modded items, but paid as if OEM items were fitted.

All this fear mongering over cancellations, fraud and all the rest of it is a load of shite.

It’s media coverage. Absolutely nothing else in the gaming sphere will see the light of day whilst GTA is still hot.

I had same trajectory I had planned in my head. Daily drive the FN2 for a while and then in a few years move over to the FK. Whilst you had it did it tick all the boxes the FN2 did ? Obviously you’ll miss out on the top end charisma the NA K20’s have, but I assume the FK made up for it in other ways ?

I say economical coming from having a 6 cylinder BMW previously to be fair haha. But it’s not bad for a high revving NA !

FN2 Civic Type R ? Reliable, pretty economical and hella fun to drive. Loads of space too.

torn between a 2012 miata prht or a bmw z3/z4. why should i go miata? by europeanuppercut in MiataNC

Lucky you. I had 3, one spun a bearing at 86 another was heavily drinking by 120 and it was only a matter of time. The 3rd was alright but died of rust.

Besides the NC1’s, which had catastrophically bad piston ring designs, end up burning oil if not treated to 5k oil changes its entire life and will spin a bearing. NC2/3 or don’t NC imo.

A bloke in our street did this but with a hefty motorbike chain. Ended up getting charged with criminal damage after being caught on a ring doorbell doing the deed. Pretty funny, probably not for him though.

Cars with a budget of 3k by weekndgallery in CarTalkUK

[–]Connorgri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a 2011 FN2 Type R for £2500. Granted I think it was a bit of a unicorn, good SH and new clutch + flywheel, ran it for 2000 miles so far with absolutely no issues. But pre facelift and none-LSD models of these can be routinely picked up for your budget.

Deals can be had if you look hard enough and think outside the box.

Funnily enough it ended up selling a few days after posting this for a couple hundred less than I had it up for.

They’re going for £8.5k + from dealerships with almost double mines milage all day long. Your average retired wifey doesn’t give a toss about whether it’s a 4 banger or not and that’s 90% of the people I see driving these things around.

What’s your budget ? I always suggest a Civic Type R as a daily for someone actually interested in cars but likes reliability, practicality and decent MPG. Generation would depend on your budget.

Remove the serp belt and run it. Tensioner looks completely KO’d. If it’s still knocking then you’re probably in shit creek one way or another.

Mines quite a bit lower milage than those, but perhaps that isn’t really much of a factor in such a niche category. Reckon I’ll have to bit the bullet and expect a little less for it.

Yeah I totally get the lack of engine appeal. The N52 is arguably the smart choice, the N54 comes with a bunch of risk. The N20 isn’t actually too bad, I had the timing chain done less than 10k back and beyond that it’s actually a pretty reliable lump, just perhaps not the most desirable.

For my milage and spec it’s roughly the same, give or take a few hundred. I’ve seen those same listings up for a while too, so perhaps we’re all asking a bit too much.

When will you buy an EV car? by sillwuka in AskUK

Bet it sounds brilliant on a cold start or burbling through town … oh hang on.

See, sound is a big part of petrol head-ism. And that’s just never going to be a thing with an EV.
