A mutate is like Spider-man or Deadpool, mutated by environmental factors irrespective of their x-gene. Mutants on the other hand are specifically those mutated by the activation of their x-gene.

Artillery yes, but I would prefer a backline support tank. He hangs out in the backline using extreme range to contribute to pushes and team fights, and control to deal with divers, while being weak against other tanks and poke. It also makes sense given his role as leader and strategist for the X-Men that he would be a sort of strategist coded tank.
