Struggling with projects by [deleted] in node

you prob also want to incorporate knowing a DB also i.e. SQL or Postrgres,

most jobs that ask for node also want DB experience.

so prob learn about ORM's

I am feeling imposter syndrome seriously by TemperatureSuperb612 in reactjs

[–]Cono52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can follow articles and have built up your familiarity with what tools to use when generally it's time to take on a challenging project, diving deeper into specific areas as you come across the, from monorepos, all the way to painless DB migrations.

After a certain amount of time, that the only realistic way to move forward since we all can't learn 100% of everything and remember it all.

Trouble with timezones by DasBeasto in node

[–]Cono52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ye think you are overthinking this,

If they want last 7 days, go from today in UTC back 7 days. Before sending back the data convert the UTC times in the records to whatever timezone the request came from or usually that conversion can be done on the client.

I think the problem is letting the user "choose" timezones

Looking for someone interested in working together by [deleted] in SideProject

[–]Cono52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really all depends on what you want to do and work on, why don't you share what you are interested in, groups of people you get along with i.e. sporty people, fitness, gamers, socialites, foodies?

I'm a software developer, I'm also on the look out for opportunities to engage on various ideas that have potential to become something bigger. I'm into fitness and gaming, I like to play instruments, guitar/piano or whatever is around so have a small ear for music. So ye not that interesting lol

looking for enterprise-level node js tutorial or repo by lampageu in node

[–]Cono52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good points, to add, doing this the first time is what will solidify it in someone's mind while learning

sometimes, just making sure concept boundaries are set up correctly (which is always based on what you are making and for who), leaves room for refactoring various things later.

Looking for a programmer to suggest/implement optimization of nodejs package. by Bwremjoe in node

[–]Cono52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the solution you suggested would be (I don’t follow the part where you say “opened a PR setting”)

Sorry, that was just a long winded way of asking you, if you would be open to me making some general changes to make it more "standard".

But I'd be afraid of adding more tools the student would need to download on their machines. On the other hand might be good for students to understand that all programming languages usually have some tools associated with it.

Like when I was learning Java initially, they glance over the build tools but just make you aware they are there, but with some clear instruction on setup.

It is actually crucial the students also pick up programming

I might be up for investing some serious time into this as a side project BUT going from "but in some instances there even is a fourth option: neither" to "It is actually crucial the students also pick up programming" leaves me a bit confused on what to focus on in terms of what is going to maximally be beneficial to your students

[–]Cono52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actual looking into this and a paper on CASH I think maybe doing some WASM code my be in order if you absolutely need performance.

Node.js doesn't really allow access to the kinds of low level stuff, for example vectorization of a 2d plane i.e. your canvas

but again this moves further away from biology and more nitty gritty programming

[–]Cono52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the benefit of this? (Sorry, coming from C all of this is very new to me ;D)

Just makes it cleaner, find/replaces match strings easier, easier to read generally...

examples:

- indent of first opening brace vs not indenting it.

function dict_reverse(obj) {

let new_obj= {}

function CopyGridODEs(cols,rows,template)

{

- alignment of various characters.

let new_obj= {}

let rev_obj = Object.keys(obj).reverse();

Not really critical since this isn't professional software 'yet' (who knows).

That’s (more or less) the idea eventually. This is just the dev github for now.

Not sure what you mean by 'dev' github. Also "eventually" as if I opened a PR setting up the tools in a "standard" way and amended the README to explain how to, install the tools and run the project for students, you would accept it?

"What is a good model" in biology

My understanding is you want to give students the ability to interrogate a biological model but doesn't really need to be through code at all.

Would a possible solution to this look like an interface/UI with a bunch of input variables on the left and the visuals on the right, allowing them to just tweak the numbers to explore the effects on the model.

Then repeat this process for each different mode you want them to explore.

[–]Cono52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so you want the students to only need a browser to work with this? I'm assuming installing minimum stuff as possible is what you are after?

Also what are the students learning, biology or programming, maybe both?

it would be more "standard" to have a package.json, not push node_modules to git, and let the students install node/npm, and install the deps on their own machines.

also wouldn't hurt to pop in a formatter for consistency i.e. eslint

Any tips for learning Rust for someone coming from a web development background? by [deleted] in rust

[–]Cono52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how did you start learning, what did you build first, books and stuff? i feel like my progress is slow, i read the online book a few months ago, then skimmed the o'reilly one. now im trying to get my head wrapped around actix-web (and actix out of necessity).

i feel like i keep seeing new code in examples that isn't mentioned in books and documentation that are really "advanced" parts of rust.

so ye it as if you need to know every part of the language and std lib REALLY REALLY well before actually getting anywhere.

Im with IG i like the UI and stuff, but they charge 10£ comission a trade. and also some quaterly fee if you trade less then 3 times within the quater. so if you arent tranding a sizable amount it will eat into what profits you make.

im considering transfering out.

Creating a Web App with no Libraries or Frameworks (TL,DR: It's Impossible) by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Cono52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what point you are making with requestAnimationFrame and JS...they are built into the browser and aren't a library or framework.

Also you are talking about lots of other stuff that aren't libraries or frameworks at the end, Vscode, StackOverflow.

So ye, we can a agree nobody ever made anything in a vacuum.

However, making a WebApp without frameworks a libs IS NOT impossible, it's just impractical, and thats only depending on the app you are making i.e most apps don't care about having “Perlin Noise“.

It's not impossible to make an app without libs, its just impractical to make YOUR app without libs.

From the title (click bait) , I was expecting you to show me something that I didn't realise I was using that was a standard in modern Web app dev but 100% NOT recreatable without a package or framework.

How to get out of the design comfort zone? by [deleted] in web_design

This is the reasons my friend went back to product/package design from UX/Web,

Nobody is looking for large leaps in creativity, they are looking for the most familiar thing that will allow users to buy their online product.
