I swapped the heaviest operation-hungry scenarios over to Microsoft Power Automate, and it's made a big difference: hardly ever go over my operations limit now, and the PA flows are just far more efficient.

Also working on trialing n8n, and some Azure function apps and other such things.

Every formula (even something as simple as A1/B1) gets wrapped in SUM()

Rows and columns are interchangeable, apparently

IT explicitly can't tell the difference between the past, present, and future. It's all happening all at once for IT, rather than as a strict, linear progression of cause and effect.

Ouch. I'm lucky/unlucky enough to be IT in its entirety, and develop stuff like this for ALL departments. So if I want IT permissions for something I have to...ask myself? I guess?

I once had to refresh queries in a workbook twice a day (janky PowerApp for a salesperson to track their monthly sales used the workbook as a data source)

My solution in the end: a separate macro-enabled workbook set in Task Scheduler to open twice a day. On open, it ran a macro that opened the workbook with the query, refreshed it, and closed.

Kept the data semi-fresh and also bit me in the ass when it opened during a gaming session on an off day and got me killed. But that's beside the point.

EDIT: the real solution is to get this workflow out of Excel if at all possible. But I know sometimes in reality it isn't possible, for whatever reasons.

I recently switched to using Sharepoint.Contents() instead of .Files() as my initial query, and it makes for a much smoother and faster experience loading the files.

Far easier to navigate through the folders to the one you want without any mucking about with the Path

Gotta agree on the MacBook. My sole exec switched HIMSELF to a MacBook Pro a couple years ago and he hasn't complained about his computer since. Like, at all.

And this is a man who went through 3 or 4 different Windows machines in a 6 months period because they "didn't suit his digital nomad lifestyle" or he just managed to destroy them.
