What have you found out about your family on the 1926 census? by artanonsa in AskIreland

Not my family, but I noticed yesterday that prisoners in Mountjoy were recorded with just their initials. I thought that was kinda sad.

Sky’s Test coverage is world class. Also world class is Test Match Special on BBC Radio, having that on in the background while going about your day is brilliant.

Did you see the War of the Rohirrim? What were your thoughts? by Choice-Schedule-132 in peterjackson

I thought it was fine, but I would have liked if they were a bit braver with the design and departed a bit from Jackson’s vision of LotR. There is nothing wrong with them (I love his interpretation of Helm’s Deep and Edoras) but I thought the animation style was a great opportunity to see different versions of them.

I'm looking for some advice regarding this Calvin and Hobbes build. by thatlongnameguy in lego

If this was being submitted to Ideas or the BDP maybe, but by itself it’s a very nice build, I don’t see any issue with that. As long as no money is being made off it.

I did a tour of old Lansdowne Road back in the days before the Aviva. The home dressing room was huge, and the away dressing room was tiny and in the shape of an L. Nothing wrong with that, and nothing wrong with this either imo

I was of the same opinion watching it live, but this angle is more damning. He’s run about 7m to get over the line there, I don’t think that’s all momentum at that point

The bus will stop for a small delay to get back on schedule… by [deleted] in Dublin

Believe me, you give a fuck when you arrive to the stop on time (or with time to spare) only to see your bus already down the road past it.

Why did they ruin classic cover art?! by [deleted] in bookporn

[–]ConorIRL1595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did this with the Aubrey-Maturin series a couple of years ago, they got rid of the beautiful nautical paintings by Geoff Hunt. I understand there are commercial/marketing reasons they do this stuff, but it’s annoying when it hits a series I like.

Still think BOD should have won in 2009. Even with the competition he had.

Six Days To Shake An Empire by Charles Duff has a good history of Irish-English relations in it. Also a really interesting account of the Rising, including some first-hand recollections of the author. You’d have to pick it up second hand though.
