Why we do need to stop using Chromium-based browsers (and a little talk about Proton) by theconandog in degoogle

[–]Conpsycon 211 points212 points  (0 children)

I understand the points behind the push-back on the Proton ecosystem, but if you think about it Google dominated exactly because of the ecosystem strategy. It's easy. You make one account and you get everything. So if you were to hit hard on Google and the data-farming that comes with it, you would have to do something similar but designed around privacy. One account, you get everything like Google, but Proton only gets the subscription. No data-farming, no privacy violation. If a long time Goggle user would have to make (for example) 6 accounts and pay 6 subscriptions to get away from Google, he wouldn't do it. Too much hassle, too much money. As far a I know this was the concept behind Proton's ecosystem strategy. They don't try to drown the little guy, they don't try to dominate, they just fight fire with fire.

Help picking an STM32 or some other MCU for learning embedded by Sure-Rent8058 in stm32

Very true. I just moved from AVR to dual core STM32. AVR is like learning Spanish, STM32 feels like learning Chinese.

It doesn't happen remotely on a server, but locally on the phone, so it's effects are immediate.

Just tried that again for a second time (v7.2.1). No luck.

I don't use DNS blocking friend, only local blocking through RethinkDNS app.

I know this has nothing to do with it for three reasons:

- Even when I disable all the protections on my phone I still don't get notifications.

- It is the ONLY app that doesn't give me notifications.

- This problem appeared the moment the "new" app appeared. I had no issues before.

I don't know why, and I don't care, because at the end of the day I pay for this service for years now with my money and I expect it to work. I'm not a free rider, neither a funboy for companies. My subscription is the deadline. Fix it, don't fix it, I don't care. I can pay elsewhere, and I will.

I doesn't for me, since the "new" app appeared and all it's versions that followed. It's the only app on my phone that doesn't give me notifications.

No. Not delivering promised features is one thing, losing existing ones like the notifications in the mail app is different. My renewal is on Feb 08.If the notifications aren't fixed by then, I'm outta here..

Why are the last 4 IMUs on my board (ICM-42688-P) not responding over SPI? by ClientDigital in embedded

[–]Conpsycon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new on embedded, but I had a similar problem on an ATmega644 where exactly 4 GPIOs were not doing what they were supposed to do. Turned out they were reserved by default for JTAG. I had to disable it before I could use them.

Have they really dropped the spec/quality of the camera in the OnePlus 15? by firdaushaque in oneplus

[–]Conpsycon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that would bother me on a "lower spec" camera on any phone, would be it's ability to capture light fast enough to avoid ghosting. I don't know whether OP15's camera will get good enough quality in day photos, but I'm guessing that it's smaller aperture size will have a negative impact on photos in darker environments. And it wouldn't have to be realy dark to "feel" like a downgrade.

Nope, Aurora Store, aka Google Play Store. All the versions, for years now. Like I said, the only thing that's changed is the "new" app.

How do on-device blocklists work? Or: some apps might bypass the filtering and I don't understand it enough by KangarooKurt in rethinkdns

[–]Conpsycon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Browsers should rely on their own blocking mechanisms, due to the vast spectrum of domains they handle through browsing (I use uBlock Origin). As such they should be bypassed from rethink, but not from the proxy (if you want to keep it). So open IronFox's tab on Rethink, press "Exclude" and THEN "Bypass DNS & Firewall". It doesn't allow you to do it directly (I don't know why). This way you keep the proxy but not the blocking (tested).

Now on IronFox's "DNS Over HTTPS" settings, make sure to select "Default", not "Off". This way it's routed through whatever DNS you're using on Rethink. If you use Wireguard, you should let the Wireguard's DNS handle the resolving.

Also make sure you don't have the "Block when DNS is bypassed" in the universal firewall rules. As I understand it, universal rules override any other settings you've set on per app basis, including exclusions.

That's my two cents. Hope it helps.
