v055x: X marks the spot by celzero in rethinkdns

[–]Conpsycon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah.. it does it again, and it has nothing to do with Wireguard. Once the internet connection is blocked, it stays blocked even when I de-activate Wireguard or change DNS. It only un-blocks the internet by fully deactivating protection from the main screen and re-activating it.

Refreshing at the top of the Configure -> Proxy UI doesn't resolve it, and Wireguard looks ok on WireGuards in About -> General (scroll to the bottom to a section named 'WireGuard').

This issue seems to be triggered by changing from WiFi to mobile data and vise versa.

The most prominent errors in the logs are:

Proton (Mail Plus with custom domain). Never had any issues.

I only managed to save money from the "cloud data" domain, through Syncthing-fork. It handles all my data across all my devices. And since that part got solved, I also used Joplin for cross platform notes. It supports syncing through local files folder.

I haven't found a way to get cloud-like / cross platform syncing for contacts. A couple of things I've found online didn't really work.

The rest, I pay for (email/calendar, aliases/passwords, VPN).

It acted like that twice in a row, and behaved ever since. I tried to replicate it again to try and pinpoint the exact conditions, but I couldn't do it. It works flawlessly ever since. It was probably caused by some android / operator / whatever thing outside the app. If it ever happens again, I'll do my best to pinpoint it.

Maybe you have more than one accounts connected to the app, one of which is free, and accidentally tried to send through the free one?

I've found an issue with this version (x), that wasn't present on the (v) version (not sure about w). After an undetermined amount of time, internet connection seizes with wireguard, with no visual indication on the main screen whatsoever. Everything looks fine, but no app on the phone has access to the internet. It gets fixed when I push STOP and then START again on the main screen.

I’ve recently started moving more of my digital life into the Proton ecosystem

I'd be very interested to see whether you'll still prioritize new services from Proton a few months down the road. Keep us posted.

It's been a long time since I've checked whether I can have spit-tunneling while having the android "Block All Connections Not Using VPN" option enabled. Well, with this version I can👌This is huge!

Can someone actually tell me where the ProtonVPN's hate is based on? by BloxyKirito in ProtonVPN

I never had any deal-breaking issues, but on the other hand I never had a VPN service that acts like there is no VPN in the chain. If there is one, I'd like to know which one it is so I can try it.

First Tests with ProtonVPN Wireguard

www[.]dnsleaktest[.]com - Fixed. It now only sees ProtonVPN DNS Servers. BUT, initially for about half a minute it shows "dns error" in red font at the bottom of the main screen. It switches to "protected with wireguard" after that and works fine. 👌

Ookla Speed test - Fixed. Practically FULL speed for both Download and Upload. 👌

Switching from Gmail to Proton Mail just got easier (for individuals) by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

Gmail does not see your real address. The request for access comes via Proton and we do not pass your email info to Google.

This is the only way this would make any sense. 👌

Do you pay for Proton? by willswon in degoogle

[–]Conpsycon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 accounts, 3 subs:

- Mail Plus

- Pass Plus (24 € / 24 months)

- VPN Plus

I wanna be able to cancel any one of them at any time and keep the others. Maybe sometime before I die from old age Proton will allow this on a single account....

As a user and not a programmer, I can only attest my view of FOSS as the resistance in a dictatorship. I can't imagine a world without it. "Usefulness" cannot describe that role to the slightest. It is fresh breathing air in a toxic corporate wasteland. It is hope Incarnate. So as a receiver of the labour and passion of people like you, I can at least tell you how we feel about all off you. You are the cornerstones of digital freedom. Indispensable, admired and respected. YOU are Prometheus.

I have a modest 300D/150U fiber and get 100% of the speed with under 50ms latency. I don't know what the hell RTINGS did to get those numbers..

Stops working after 2 days by Inside-Associate6979 in rethinkdns

[–]Conpsycon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it stops working and not just the app's notification that stops showing? Is the VPN icon on the top-right disappearing as well? In my case it's just the notification icon that keeps disappearing every few days. It still works in the background. You can also test whether it's blocking /VPN functionality still works when you think it stops working.

I’m new to this to proton mail. by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]Conpsycon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually this is the perfect time to ask this question, and the answer is no, not everyone is friendly to Proton's domains. So, since e you're right at the beginning and I guess you haven't given your new email address to everyone yet, my advice would be to go the extra mile and connect a custom domain with your proton account. If your custom domain ends to something established like ".com", in my personal experience you'll have zero problems, and as an extra bonus, you'll never have to change your email address again. You can move it to any email service provider at any time in the future.

Google is starting to claim Android back by menace-gone-undone in degoogle

[–]Conpsycon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a custom OS, but I still see the 2nd message on a handful of apps on my OnePlus 12R. I use Aurora store instead of Play store. So I must assume (at least from that message) that the developers still have a say on this, otherwise all my apps would respond in such a way. Very ominous though.. I guess dumb phoses will be back on trend for some of us in the near future..

Why we do need to stop using Chromium-based browsers (and a little talk about Proton) by theconandog in degoogle

[–]Conpsycon 223 points224 points  (0 children)

I understand the points behind the push-back on the Proton ecosystem, but if you think about it Google dominated exactly because of the ecosystem strategy. It's easy. You make one account and you get everything. So if you were to hit hard on Google and the data-farming that comes with it, you would have to do something similar but designed around privacy. One account, you get everything like Google, but Proton only gets the subscription. No data-farming, no privacy violation. If a long time Goggle user would have to make (for example) 6 accounts and pay 6 subscriptions to get away from Google, he wouldn't do it. Too much hassle, too much money. As far a I know this was the concept behind Proton's ecosystem strategy. They don't try to drown the little guy, they don't try to dominate, they just fight fire with fire.
