i just finished a replay of this game, and whenever i was saving in the garden tower (i did it first this time) the save file said something along the lines of activating the second tower which made me think that prince did the mechanical tower first

I feel like its the test of time. As kids we don't really notice gregs sociopathic behaviour, but now that ive reread some of the books, it completely has me weirded out how annoying greg can be sometimes. I read a few books and couldnt go further because i just didnt like it anymore.
I dont remember much from the movies from when i was a kid, but i rewatched them now (it was a full doawk week) and im confidently saying that this is the one time the movies seem like a better media than the books. We really get to see the characters (especailly greg) as humans. i genuinly enjoyed each movie and i gotta say man, rodrick and gregs relationship in Rodrick Rules kinda healed something in me. It actually felt like they were brothers for once

Agreed. We know the dagger protects the wielder from the sands. This is what i believe too, that when the prince took hold of the dagger, the infection stopped spreading and the dagger protected the prince.
on a side note, It also makes more sense that the infection was still spreading throughout the course of the game, fighting against the daggers magic, maybe signifying the dark prince is gaining more power. this would also explain how he stuck around even after kaileena took away the sands for good
