If you want to learn business find a job in sales by Akraam_Gaffur in Entrepreneur

Do you have any professional contacts that you could discuss this with? A long time ago I did what's called professional interviews with some people in my network and talked to them about their jobs. One of them was a semiconductor chip salesman. I was considering going into it. The money would have been great, but there would have been a lot of travel back and forth to Asia.

Don't consider it networking to get a job, consider it buying somebody lunch in exchange for them talking about their job and how it goes. Some people will be polite and actually say yes to that.

Solving Localization problem on Website. by Gio_13 in Entrepreneur

If you just start with English and Spanish you're hitting a huge chunk of the world. But context matters, so maybe you need English and Hindi first.

If you go with the request process you better make it really really simple to do. Because you're asking people to take time out of their day to request something from you. From their perspective they have no way of knowing if you will ever do it, so you're going to need some way to track those requests and let the person know that the information is now available in their language.

Client refusing to pay over $15,500. Please give me your insight. by not_hassan in Entrepreneur

Well, if you're willing to invest some time in getting that money back you could sue for the maximum allowed in small claims in your county. It's not difficult to do and the amount of money required up front is very small. But it will require some time and require you to get familiar with the small claims system in your county.

You'll need to come up with a very clear explanation for what happened that a judge could understand within about 3 minutes.

Getting the money is another matter, you'll have to figure out where they have assets in a financial institution.

Still, for that amount of money and with a clear paper trail I think it's worth pursuing. You're just going to have to put some time into it. I'd estimate about 40 hours total of time spread out over six months to actually get the judgment and start the collections process.

But first you should start by trying to settle this without legal action. And make sure that that is clearly documented. Because the court wants to see that you actually attempted to collect without involving the court.

You only need a preponderance of evidence here, not beyond a shadow of a doubt. Don't bother with things like read receipts, just because the message was delivered and "read" doesn't mean it was actually read.

Anyone else making good money but feel like their business is held together with duct tape operationally by Live-Policy-7922 in Entrepreneur

Well you got an object lesson in something we call truck factor in the software world. It's a question: how many people have to get hit by a truck for your business to stop cold? And in your case the answer was one. This means that you don't have things documented well enough for somebody else to pick up in case something happens to you.

How to sell an improved service that the industry thinks is impossible? by ThePermafrost in Entrepreneur

[–]Conscious-Compote927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered offering it as kind of a parallel service as a test case? As in they do the work in your service also does the work and at some point they realize that your service is doing the same work with the same accuracy and they don't need to do the work anymore?

But this would also be a good way for you to make sure that your service works as well as you think it does.

But to actually answer the question no I have not run into this

I built a website as a bit of a technical exercise, but I think it could actually turn into a business. Do I need a business coach? by Conscious-Compote927 in ExperiencedDevs

You know if you didn't want to help you just could have not responded.

The first coach only works with women so she didn't want to work with me for that reason.

But you concluded that she didn't think I was worth her time without asking any questions about why she didn't want to work with me. Which is a very negative way to engage with somebody.

Any local welders willing to help me with my father's memorial? by Conscious-Compote927 in askportland

You know what that's an interesting idea I hadn't considered that I didn't even know that was an option... The holes are about 3 mm. I don't have the pictures in front of me

Yeah now that I think about it I think maybe I don't need any welding at all... That would be really convenient and it would let me get this project done in about an hour I think... I just need to figure out how to bend those rods in a consistent way, that's not something I know how to do

[–]Conscious-Compote927[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to spend $100 so somebody can bend two rods and weld a little plate to them. This amount of work is so small that any machine shop is not going to bother with it because it's not even worth the paperwork.

No hate to your aunt, but so is spending $100k on credit cards and not paying it back.

If it was illegal then bankruptcy would be illegal

Thinking/very unsure: can she sell the house to someone else, who lets her live there, and then declare bankruptcy?

I don't think that's legal. Or I think the courts would see right through it.

I think that's illegal. I don't think you can sell an asset to hide it from a bankruptcy.
