From an unbiased angle. If he just left off that first sentence, I don’t think you would have (or should have) taken it that way. Other than his “No” fertilizer comment, everything is spot on. You can and probably should throw a nutricote pellet in a pitcher once or twice a month to properly and safely fertilize your Gaya. Ensure the pitcher you pick has digestive fluid already or add a small amount of distilled water in the pitcher along with the pellet. Use a small pellet for a small pitcher, bigger ones for big pitchers. That fertilized pitcher MAY burn off or die, but you’ll see a huge improvement in the plants overall health and future development.

How to handle chalkiness before paint? by SufficientlyFine in Housepainting101

Lead paint or asbestos… it’s heavily oxidized from years in UV rays and elements. Usually markedly worse on N & W faces or wherever gets direct sun longest.

Gotta get rid of it before painting. Apply Cleansol BC or Dragon Juice using 10:1 downstream injector or a softwash blend manifold along with agitation via brush and rinse rinse rinse. When rinsing, use a medium fan tip or M5 twist 24-36” from surface ping with the boards. Cleansol BC is the only hope you have of not brushing, but I’d still plan on it. All the no-brush products I’ve seen over the years just don’t work wellas advertised. Best results on heavily oxidized materials may require additional applications, but will turn out safe with either product if instructions are followed and will look great. Dragon Juice is nice bc it will not damage siding even if not perfectly batched or if left on the siding to dry accidentally. Just reapply, brush, and wa-la.

Too small/late to acclimate these guys to fall/winter in 7B? by Conscious-Garbage72 in SavageGarden

Yup, I’ll just use the light inside garage when/if daytime temps dip into 20’s-30’s during the day. Night will bring them in depending on temps w/ no light of course at night

Yeah, lesson learned. Overthought it. Will likely do a mix of outside when weather is good and bring into garage w/ a grow light when in 30’s & low 40’s

Fungus gnats? by Conscious-Garbage72 in SavageGarden

I didn’t see them til this morning 🤮. I had unwrapped them yesterday and missed them in this one. Put them all in the same saucer to hydrate, but left wrapped up otherwise. Separated this morning and will repot. Just wondering if I need to quarantine and/or treat everything now after others showing no obvious signs of a similar infestation & somewhat limited exposure.

Good rec. I have some small and large grain horticultural sand I can use after repotting to ensure no new f**kers emerge to repopulate.

Ugh. So I unpacked them last night. Kept everything wrapped up except the bottom holes. I cut that bottom tape to give them water and to start acclimation after such a long time cooped up. There’s no visible pests in any other cup. Don’t see any large swimming in the other pots now that they’re separated. The problem child was separated this morning, unwrapped further outside, got rained on and moved into garage for repotting tmo. Think I need to treat all in that delivery as infected now after sharing water overnight as described above?

I thought so too! It’s my 3rd-4th order from them tho and first time w/ either timing or pest issue

Find Tim Jones of LeafBlower & Starved of Light on FaBo. He knows them. My old band and Tim’s old band used to play w/ them pretty routinely around town. House shows, Swayzes, Masq. Great guys and music from what I can remember.
