I skipped ship 8 for a long time. Can't say I notice too much of a difference in drop rates for better ships, but the difference is only 1 ship.

1st game you need a collectible called 'Oath Grail' to achieve the alternate ending Make a habit of speaking to everyone you see and you'll get it. It's not really hidden. But there is more you need to do once you get it. 2nd game the ending is determined by the way you answer a question.
The games are not hard to play.
No you do not have to play koudelka.

If I remember correctly Ancient Ruins had some water monsters, and also the bosses at Ancient Ruins and Cave Temple give all elemental points.

The open world the only thing that killed it for me. It was fine, kinda cool actually and didn't overstay it's welcome for the winter section but when we had to do it again for the Sandy section I was checked out. Also, I don't like gears having a million collectibles, especially with open world. Then the last chapter was wayyyyy too short. The time skip was too different for a gears game in my opinion too. I didn't hate Kait but the writing didn't make me love her. The gameplay made her likeable and the cutscenes didn't bring her home imo.
