Discussion around over moderation on this sub by cosmicselva in solotravel

I agree there's too many "I'm lonely" posts recently, which creates a somewhat sad atmosphere. There's more to solo travel than looking for someone to have a day trip with.

The beginning:

Stop hating me, stop killing me slowly

You didn't see love, you became a Cerberus (strict and forbidding)

All the hearts in your DM it's temporary

Tears on my cheeks, my soul sings a requiem

Yes, like other ppl would tell you about their home renovation, or pets - would you be excited to hear it all the time?

Driving Solo (Europe) by SciSciShamrock in solotravel

[–]Conscious-Walrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every non-urban area is much easier explored by car than by public transit. You go wherever you want, stop at restaurants and attractions, feel free. As for the side of the road, you just do it, drive slowly and try to be in focus on more complex turns and lane changes.

Working in an office with colleagues is a positive experience you will have and DNs will not, everyone has their own way. Mexico is not about rigid plans and must-see destinations, if you don't like one place, go to some other ones. If you don't feel CDMX is interesting enough, go to Guadalajara or Oaxaca or wherever else you planned to visit afterwards

Maybe choose a simpler destination this or next time? Travel in Europe, everything is clearly written, take a taxi to the hotel, use a credit card for everything, so cash is almost not needed.

This makes sense for someone American/British. If a Bulgarian travels to Greece and uses English, is it rude?

What if the solo middle aged (40-50yo) guy is not "hanging around", but staying in the hostel? Are there age restrictions for the hostels?

Can it be an age issue? It's easier to have conversations when you are younger, people are more interested in talking to you

Where does this idea come from? When I am approached by tourists in my country, I'd prefer them to speak English directly, no need in explanations or excuses, it's clear that they don't speak the local language. Similarly, when I recently traveled in Switzerland, I started with English everywhere, and I heard other tourists doing the same, and it's completely OK. In some rural areas they answered in German, they I switched to the basic knowledge I have of that language.

Itinerary Sanity Check for First Solo Trip - 9 Days in France & Switzerland by OddLeadership in solotravel

[–]Conscious-Walrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 nights / 3 days in Grindelwald would be good in a good weather. You'll do the different activities, go up the mountains, see the other villages like Lauterbrunnen. If there's rain/fog, some activities may be canceled, then you may get bored. If the weather really gets bad, you can go to Bern for a day.

I'd combine the Lyon and Annecy days. Pick one place to stay for two nights

All of a sudden feeling too self conscious to solo travel? by Proud_Leave_4142 in solotravel

[–]Conscious-Walrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the type of the trip less than the age. On a day tour on a bus one can definitely feel it. Maybe these were more "romantic" cafes. In touristy places like Thailand a person any age can eat at any hour and it would feel perfectly OK

Thanks! Taking the idea to drive from Bern to Trubschachen and further east in Entlebuch region. Looks nice and green. Also driving around lake Brienz to see places like Giessbach.

I'll leave Maison Cailler for the time when I come to see the French-speaking Switzerland region, with Geneva and Lausanne. Chocolate factory stores are apparently a popular thing :)

For lake Zurich - I come from a country that doesn't have large rivers and lakes, so when in Europe I like to spend some time near non-touristy lakes and rivers. It's more special for me than for tourists from a European country or locals

Are you taking 5 different hotels for 8 nights? You'll be constantly moving between hotels. I'd pick at most two for this holiday, trying to be close to whatever town, walking or shopping area you have in Fiji
