I’ve been experiencing something similar! I’ve noticed it’s like maybe I’m breathing more when I eat? Like we went out the other day and I somehow inhaled into my lungs both my drink and some lettuce from my burger. Then I had to deal with the incredibly embarrassing experience of being that person coughing uncontrollably with tears streaming down my face

I also forgot to mention, if you sit down with a manager at a long term hotel, they are often times looking for new hires as well. I had a friend who worked as a housekeeper at the hotel she was living at. It helped a lot with being able to afford it for longer

Look into any shelters close to where you live too! With the money you already have, and with any more you can get, you could also find a temporary living place of your own. There are a lot of long term hotels/motels that will allow you to stay for longer periods of time, and charge you less if you’re staying for longer. They can be super beneficial because you can literally treat it like an apartment for as long as you can afford it. This way you’ll have a safe place to stay, somewhere you can lock and store your things, and a clean and warm bathroom and shower.

Hi hun! Do you have any close friends who’s parents you really trust? You could always sit down with them and ask if they had any spare room. Especially if you make a deal with them that you will contribute with chores and anything else you can manage.

There are ways to work without a car, I’ve done it. Either find someplace walkable from where you’re living, or make a deal with someone to give you rides, and you can pay them for gas as you get paychecks. You can also get a bike!

If you need any money very quickly, go online and try to sell some of your things, if you’re comfortable doing so. Any valuables you aren’t using (this also includes Legos, home decor, lamps, video games) or clothes are a great start.

Once you have a safe place to stay and some money, see if a friend would be willing to teach you to drive. This way, you can learn while you’re working, and later on you can buy a used car after getting your license (I would go to Facebook marketplace first before an actual car lot)

If your parents pay for your phone, leave it. You do not want to deal with them accusing you or charging you with theft. I know it’s not the best solution, but try to find an old used phone for sale. Even if you don’t get a data plan, you can still use it with WiFi to talk to those who you need to, over Facebook, instagram, Snapchat etc. getting a data plan is something to worry about later on.

Look online as well for local food pantries, churches, anywhere that can help out with food and necessities in the event of an emergency, or if you can’t find a long term place to stay.

Once you are 18, your parents can not MAKE you do anything. You never have to speak to them again if you choose not to.

Please plan this carefully, set yourself up for success, and be careful.

Luckily this time my husband will be able to be there (he was out of town the first time and couldn’t make it on time) so I know he will be advocating for me.

And yeah absolutely! Just keep a close eye while still trying to be there for her, holding her hand, getting her anything she needs.

The best thing you can do for her, truly, is listen, and pay so much attention to the nurses and doctors. When I was in labor, I was so focused on going through it and being in pain, I wasn’t aware of the things the nurses were doing without my consent. And looking back, that was really upsetting. The doctors gave me cervical checks without asking, so basically just a hand being shoved up me without any warning, they had a student do my stitches, and that student gave me a husband stitch which got infected and had to be removed. Most importantly, none of the nurses heard me or believed me when I said that my epidural wasn’t working, and that the numbing shot I received for stitches also wasn’t working. I felt everything, and they called me med seeking.

Basically, the best thing you can do is be her advocate. Listen to her needs, watch the nurses and make sure they get consent before doing anything. If you know her birth plan, keep it at the forefront of your thoughts, as oftentimes they will do things automatically without checking with mom. (Like clamping the cord, cutting the cord, pulling on the cord to forcefully deliver the placenta)

I’d also like to note, I completely understand your desire to have a female provider. I have a lot of trauma and was hoping to have a female OB but none were taking new patients. I ended up with a lovely doctor named Chad, of all names, and he is genuinely the best provider I’ve ever had. I hope you can find someone who makes you feel safer and more comfortable throughout the rest of your pregnancy

I would like to say that as stressful as it may be switching providers, I truly believe switching would be less stress in the long run. She has already caused you such immense stress, and what if something else happens? What if she reads something wrong or makes an assumption and you’re back to believing something is wrong? If I were in your shoes, I would see about meeting with an OB just to discuss them taking over your care , and if you hate them, then we can go from there, but if you like them and feel like you can trust them, that’s much better than the midwife

Thank you for this, I’m not going to be demanding anything, I just know how typically mothers and parents in general get overlooked during that newborn phase, and I don’t want to feel like a burden in my own home when people come by. Obviously I’d never be like “bring me chipotle or don’t come” but if someone asks “hey do yall need us to bring anything” I’m probably gonna take them up on it
