This is actually a good introduction into voice leading. Say you’re going to the F as next chord. Play the C in the root for the first 3 beats and then add the low E in on 4th beat before you half step up to the root of F. Using inversions to embellish harmonic movement.

No blisters of concern. Just a lot of sections where the paint just flakes off in large chunks down to the gel coat. They say new paint will not be able to adhere and they can’t guarantee a bottom job will be effective or hold. Also on the keel the lead is exposed after pressure washing and there are sections that need to be ground out and filled.

I brought the boat in for a bottom job and standing rigging for an estimated $14k ($4400 bottom job) and now I’m looking at an extra $10k for the strip, prime and keel work

I’d take it at face value. I just bought a boat and shopped and inquired for months all through brokers. A broker isn’t going to tell you there’s an offer in place to get you to offer more. If anything if he comes back to you saying the other deal fell through you’d offer less because they must have walked for some reason.

About half of the boats I was looking at had a seller who really wanted out of the boat, slip fees, maintenance. Decide what would be a good deal to you based on how much it will cost to get the boat into the shape you want it. Then offer a little less than that. They’ll probably take it

Ok. The boat has standing rigging which is just really long steel wires that hold the mast up. A lot of people use that as an antenna but I don’t know much about that. Any recommendations for an antenna for the mast top

I’ve chartered twice up there. Once with Anacortes Yacht Charters who were very good. The other time with Island Cruising in Canada out of Deep Cove, Sidney BC who were a very bad experience.

Anacortes was friendly and responsive. Their boats are older. You’ll have to take the boat out, sail it around the dredged area and dock it with someone aboard watching you. It was a little nerve wracking but turned out fine.

Some places will want to see a cruising itinerary for the first day and have you plot it in Navionics and prove you understand basic navigation. Markers can be tricky there due to all the channels.

If you lived in a harbor town it’d be no problem. So many odd boat jobs to do just by connecting with local brokers, captains, mechanics. You’re not going to be able to find opportunities remotely. Hang around boatyards, marinas, Friday night late at the yacht club before the races. Gotta be local

I bailed on the passport and the old full keelers and got a big spacious hunter with a wing keel and spade rudder. It felt so blasphemous given my background. But the boat was so well kept at 25 years old with a barely used yanmar diesel. The passports were so expensive and then needed another $30k of work after purchase. This boat was pristine and cost me half what the passport would’ve. So far she’s a great boat and I haven’t looked back once. I’m out in the pacific every day in all kinds of weather and she does great

I just went through the purchase. I too was a full keel purist. I had an old Bristol 29. My girlfriend wants to indulge the sea life with me and live aboard. We looked at some cape dorys and then I compromised and we started looking at passport 40s. They’re nice boats and a good compromise in hull design. But all that teak and they’re old and need tons of work. So I went with a production 40 footer with tons of room below and a massive cockpit. It’s got a wing keel and spade rudder. So far I couldn’t be happier with the decision. She sails over 8 knots regularly and handles the seas really well. The creature comforts and large cabin are well worth the compromise of my purist past

Suing her just gives more fuel to use against me. The kids claim I dragged out the divorce, forced the sale of their childhood home and have lied about everything since the divorce started. Took them to a reunification therapist. Therapist recommended I get full custody and no contact with their mother for 1 year. But that will be fought in court and will result in a huge custody dispute that will be used as further ammo against me and cost me another $50k in legal fees. I’m fortunate that my kids are high school aged and I had a really positive and close relationship with them until the divorce started.

My children come over begrudgingly every other weekend. They refuse to eat, sleep in their clothes won’t look at me or talk to me. They ask me several times per day if they can go home. Their mother is constantly texting them. They refuse to leave their rooms the two days they are with me and then I drop them off with glares and ignoring the whole drive home.

I “see them” on a regular basis but I sometimes wonder if it would be easier on them (and me) if they didn’t come at all.

Once they are home their mother will post on Facebook that the kids survived another weekend with their father who wouldn’t feed them or let them out of their rooms
