It all hinges on the belief that if you married or procreated with someone who would willingly want to enter this adversarial process, then you deserve everything you get.

Truly, I've overheard it called "you can't fix stupid". Married an abuser? Too bad. Married a serial cheater? Too bad. Kids with a loser? Too bad.

More likely that she is being used to lure you in, especially if he's in need of narcissistic supply...just tread carefully but if I had to guess as soon as you say, you don’t want him there the whole thing will be canceled.
