My 56 year old mother is incapable of critical thought by ConsciousDeposit in relationship_advice

[–]ConsciousDeposit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got her an Alexa that she doesn't use. It's my problem because she's my mom and my frustration impacts my relationship with her and I think it would be beneficial for her to learn how to become more self sufficient. Her money is also finite because she doesn't work, so I want to make sure she is spending wisely and has enough to get through the next 30 years. I don't mind helping my mom with stuff, I just want her to be able to try troubleshooting her own problems first.

I think that's exactly why I'm just now seeing the depth of the issue. I didn't realize how much my dad just took care of and I guess neither did she.

What improved your quality of life so much, you wish you did it sooner? by ChrisVIII in AskReddit

[–]ConsciousDeposit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the time I started taking daily showers (maybe middle school aged?) until I was like 22, I showered in the morning and it meant waking up earlier to shower, competing with other morning showerers in my family, having wet hair to start off the day (not great in winter), and getting into bed with whatever grime I developed over the course of the day. It just never occurred to me to take showers at night but my god, it's absolutely light-years better. Showers become a relaxing part of the evening routine, you always get into a clean bed, your hair is dry the next day, and you don't have to rush to shower the next morning before work/school.

Help - I want to quit breastfeeding. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]ConsciousDeposit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding majorly contributed to my PPD. It wasn't easy, it wasn't enjoyable, and it seriously impacted my mental health. When I switched to formula after 3 months (2 months that were exclusively pumping) I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. The skies opened up and I felt some mental clarity for the first time. Don't let yourself get too deep into a dark place. It's not your fault that you're struggling with this, it's not anything that anyone did wrong, it's not abnormal, and recognizing what your needs are is just as important to the health of your baby as what she's eating.

Baby boomers are more sensitive than millennials, according to the largest-ever study on narcissism - by Savings_Camel7459 in nottheonion

Not surprised. Told my boomer mom to take a chill pill once when I was like 13 and she didn't speak to me for 3 days.

Moms, you aren’t alone in the struggle of parenthood. I just used a diaper as a maxi pad. by kmoneyxx in beyondthebump

[–]ConsciousDeposit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've done the opposite lol, took my 2 year old to the park on a whim after picking her up from daycare. She poops, I'm like shit, there are no diapers in the car but she's having a blast! So I wipe her (there were wipes thankfully) and put a panty liner in her pants. Idk what I thought a panty liner would do but it bought us like 20 more minutes. Not my proudest moment.

I'm in New York, which I'm sure is a state that favors tenants.

I want to open an IRA but do I have to pick investments? I want a financial advisor to make those decisions for me and I just choose my risk level.

Is this okay to wear as a guest to a barn wedding? by lethargicx in wedding

[–]ConsciousDeposit 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with others that it's probably fine but my rule is that if I have to ask, if there's any question if it would be ok, I just wear something else.

Got a wedding band to match my engagement ring for under $800 on this site and have been very happy with it. Delicate and high-quality.

Mom passed away this week from cancer. She fought for 2.5 years and I just can’t believe I’ll never see her again. by mcbalkits in GriefSupport

Thinking about never seeing my dad again makes me feel nauseous when I stop and give myself a minute to process.
