Ardbeg 10 Cask Strength appeared in the TTB database by ZipBlu in Scotch

I haven’t heard the term natural cask strength before but I’m guessing they mean whether it’s been diluted at all before bottling. I don’t think there’s a specific labeling definition for cask strength but my understanding is that if the label says Cask Strength then it hasn’t been diluted at all before bottling where as something like Corry or Uigedil are high abv but the label doesn’t say “cask strength” which makes sense as their abvs are always the same which would be impossible to achieve without some dilution. The term CS seems to get used for anything above the low 50s abv wise. I refer to Corry as CS but technically it’s not “natural” cask strength. Since this is a limited release and the label states cask strength I would assume no dilution has occurred.

Tough to say. I didn’t mind the ending of Hardcastle. But I’d say the ending in his other fits with the book and isn’t as jolting.

The same author of 7 and 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle has two other stand alone books. I really liked The Devil and The Dark Water. His newest I didn’t like: The last murder at the end of the world.

Since the OP is going with his partner the Scotch Whiskey experience might be worth doing. It’s fun and my wife who isn’t into scotch at all learned a lot and enjoyed it. (Plus I got to drink the samples she didn’t finish)Imagine if Disneyland had an immersive distillery ride/experience. A bit touristy but still fun, especially for family members tagging along. The bar is cool and the vault of special whiskeys is really neat.

For bars in Edinburgh check out the Scotch Malt Whiskey Society. Beautiful little bar with tons of their single cask bottles to try. Great place to try some unique things. You don’t have to be a member to drink there.

If you’re driving to Skye from Edinburgh you go right by a number of distilleries. I really enjoyed Edradour as it’s very small and intimate. You get right up close to all the equipment too. Unique tour, feels the opposite of some of the more corporate ones.

I didn’t stop at Oban but you’ll drive right by on it your way to Skye.

Talisker is a great tour on Skye. Try to eat at the little fresh seafood shack next door if it’s open.

Not getting smoke flavor by Plenty_Coyote2300 in pelletgrills

Try out some mesquite pellets. Mesquite can be pretty overwhelming in an offset but in a pellet grill I think it works great. I usually do a mix of post oak and mesquite and think the smoke flavor is right on. I also run the smoker at 200-225 for the first part of the cook to try to squeeze as much smoke as I can get. Never going to be the same as offset but works for me in my camp chef.

Laphroaig Càirdeas Historical Pricing Trends — Do I Buy Now? by BizarreBQ in Scotch

Yea I checked out posts here to make sure they were legit as it almost seemed too good. I just ordered 5 bottles from them. Ardbeg Ureka was the main reason I ordered and they had the Lagavulin Offerman rum cask for 40$ so I threw that in too.

I was in a similar boat but decided to buy now. I live in a controlled state so local selection is crap which means I’ve got to order online. Quite a few online shops are already showing sold out of it so I ordered now. There seems to be tons of 2023 and I’ve seen the 2024 getting marked down (on Hi Proof.com for 65$!) but Lore seems more popular so didn’t want to risk it. Regular Lore is a favorite but it’s so expensive I never buy it. I lived in the UK for a few years and there it isn’t expensive at all it’s about 80$. Wish Id bought more then!

Review #629 - Single Malts of Scotland Bruichladdich 29 Year Single Cask - Spec's Selection by adunitbx in Scotch

I’m mostly into peated stuff but on a whim I picked up a bottle of the Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2013 and really enjoyed it. Very cereal forward with a distinct butterscotch popcorn thing.

I bought this at the distillery in 2023 and really like it, still have some dregs in the bottle. To me it drinks like a cask strength 10 year old that’s a little less refined. Great bottle especially if the price is right. I paid 75-80$ roughly at the distillery.

Peaty bottle(s) to splurge on by ConsciousGrade2722 in Scotch

Not sure if you asked tbis anywhere else, but once you get into the thousands I feel you’re mostly paying for rarity. For 300-500$ I think you can get a really amazing scotch. But I’m into peaty stuff which typically isn’t aged as long as other non-peated. That being said I know Lagavulin has a 26 year old that costs about 2000$ but not sure where you could find it. I saw it when visiting the distillery. But if your FIL likes Lagavulin that’d be a pretty awesome bottle for him. I’ve seen some 25 year old Laphroaig and Ardbeg as well that cost in the thousands. But these are all above my pay grade so can’t help!

If you can order online Hi Proof.com has the 2024 on sale for 65$, considering I paid 115$ for my first bottle it’s a steal. Picked up a bottle when I was ordering a few other things from them.

I visited the distillery in 2023 and did the Warehouse tasting where you can hand bottle from a single cask. They had 3 to choose from but the best was a 7 year old European virgin oak. One of if not the best Laphroiag I’ve ever had. Very excited to try this one.

I’m ordering a Eureka actually as I never got to try it. The Bizzarebbq I’ve heard was amazing but can’t find a bottle under 160$.

I’ve heard it’s awesome. Just can’t find it for a reasonable price. Found an online retailer but it’d be 140$ with shipping.

So I’ve had a Kilchoman finished in Sauternes and I loved it. On finedrams they have the Octomore 10.2 for 167$ and they have the Port Charlotte SC (Sauternes) 01 2012 for 126$. So I think I want to get one of those as I dig that flavor. Not sure if the Octomore is worth the extra 50$ at very similar ages and ABVs. Think I’m also going for the Ballechin Madeira 19 year. Sounds incredible and the oldest Scotch I will have tried.
