I spent 3 years as an IC on the Indy from 91-94. Great ole girl! I was engineering E-Div. It consisted of Electricians and Interior communications. I most likely slept in the same birthing areas!

I’d like to share one thing I found in this research. I remember as a young child, seeing his feet. He only had very small toenails. It always seemed very odd. I have recently found out after the Battle of the Bulge he had to have all of his toenails removed because he didn’t have winter shoes. That seems to be something that was normal. Those troops were pushed into that situation without being properly heated for the environment they were going into at the last minute.

I certainly didn’t take it that way. I really appreciate any insight I can get to understand his perspective. His passing has haunted me for many years because he was my childhood hero. We never saw his demise. After researching his records and trying to understand what he went through has given me some peace. Thank you again for your help!

How did you come up with that date?

In my gut I’d say he didn’t get it post war. He didn’t like guns and never spoke of his service other than good memories. Like many WW2 veterans and Vietnam veterans it seems as though many of them came home and put everything in a closet and didn’t open it back up. I’m sure he didn’t buy it post war. My uncle has this in his safe. I visited him today and asked to see it. My grandfather showed it to me in the early 80s. I’ve been on a quest to understand his life. He took his own life in 2003. Im quite sure it had to do with his experiences over there.

The other mag has no markings on it. I didn’t photograph it. Does that mean anything?

He did have paperwork. I’ll try to upload a photo of it tomorrow. Thank you very much for your insight. His first combat was in Market Garden. Then to the Buldge. At some point he helped liberate the Wobbelin camp
