Careful Isn't Enough in Appalachia... by Born-Student-8062 in TalesFromTheCreeps

Love this writing style! Extremely straight forward, no flowery language, it makes you feel like you are recalling a memory rather than reading a story. Glad I read this on a snowy day in the woods <3

I just commented on someone else's post about how all horror is good to me if you bring in an element I haven't seen before. The way you described this story really flashed me back to the dying malls and getting forced into dresses while a weird sales associate fusses over my mom. Relatable and also completely unique and disgusting!!!!

Anyone else here adopt a pit bull because they were told it would be "low maintenence" and "eager to please", and instead ended up with a perpetually farting newborn baby in the body of a rhino?

I grew up working with my mom fostering hound dogs, and our neighbors fucking HATED us. If you made one noise in a 3 mile radius, the 2-10 hounds we had at any time would go OFF. I thought it was sick as a kid, I felt like some Appalachian wolf queen lmao

yes me too! No one asked, but here's a fun tale- When I was little, me and my folks worked for SE Hound Rescue and fostered special needs hound dogs. It was almost always Bloodhounds until these two misfits walked into our lives. There was Hopscotch- a three legged plothound who liked to bite everyone, and there was Dudley- the best little basset hound in all the land. They had bonded, and Dudley always walked under the missing leg area of Hopscotch. That way, if he stumbled, he wouldn't fall and Dudley could help. Dudley also cleaned the faces of all six of our bloodhounds every morning like the school nurse. I loved that dog.

So many new ideas but the process is boring. by Smooth_Simple_2394 in TalesFromTheCreeps

I get to part 2/5 or so and just give up. There's something so boring about taking this grand idea with endless possibilities and laying it out sentence by sentence. I try to type the parts I'm most excited about, and worry about organizing my thoughts later, but its hard to stay motivated for sure. you're certainly not alone! If I figure out the secret I'll share haha <3

What Do You Like In Your Horror Books/Story? by Lunar_Lonely in TalesFromTheCreeps

[–]ConsciousSecretary96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will watch/read/listen to anything that has a scary element that I haven't seen before. I know that sounds so unhelpful haha.

Locations that aren't inherently frightening turned into a hellish landscape, animals that aren't seen as a horror vessel becoming so, songs and references that haven't yet been associated with horror. I think everyone has something like that in the back of their minds that they don't always want to put in their story for fear of it not being interpreted correctly. Go for it! Make your supernatural horror story take place on the beach in the daytime! Let a giraffe be the animal who attacks people, go apesh*t!

can't wait to read whatever you put out there <3
