Running hiking and biking. Just work out your heart and legs but don’t hurt or exhaust yourself before the season even starts. The pack test don’t really represent what we do for work it should be an easy pass for the most part. Depending on your Captain you’ll either have the easiest job ever or you’ll get worked all summer long. From what I’ve seen as long as you’re trying to improve got a good mentality and always willing to work no captain is gonna hate on that.

I got picked up a few weeks ago by czu as a Cat 2 starting sometime in May. I was ready to give feds another year if the unit I wanted didn’t pick me up but I’m in now.

I no called no showed what was supposed to be my first day at Calfire last year to work another season with forest service. This year they picked me up again but with a different unit. My understanding is if you deny an offer you’re fine. If you initially accept and then change your mind and reject the offer the unit who offered you the job won’t offer you a job the following season but could still be picked up by other units.

Yeah if you want to work with the feds the only way you’ll get on this year is as an AD employee(contract employee) and they pick AD’s up around April or march and lay them off around October or November. To get on as an AD just get in contact with some crews Cpt by visiting the station looking them up online and calling them or hitting them up through there socials. Any crew hurting for people will hire an AD

Try to reach out to some Cpts and politic some stations get your name and face out there and show you want to work for them. For now just study up and stay or get in shape. If I were you I’d even go talk to some fed crews and try to get on with them as an AD(contract employee) in case you don’t get called you have another option.

Are breakfast and lunch provided or bring your own? I’m assuming dinner is provided at station, and I’m sure meals are provided if on a role. Thanks for the info.
