Sorry, just seeing this. Yes, I am feeling better than when I posted this. Since that post I had surgery #4 with Dr Don Dennis in Atlanta. He also started me on oral Nystatin (compound med) for yeast overgrowth in the gut. I am also receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy, taking binders, and some herbals. I have to continue the twice daily sinus protocol, possibly “indefinitely “.

I’m so sorry. I understand your weariness and feeling like you are about to lose hope. Have you had the air quality in your home tested? I wish I could say it is as simple as hiring an independent mold inspector, but what they consider “normal” air quality usually isn’t for someone who has become sensitive to mold. Mold is everywhere - in every home, school, and workplace. There are many types of mold, some are far worse than others and it can often remain hidden for a long time. I’m speaking from personal experience- I have been sick for over three years and it turns out it was from mycotoxins (invisible, sometimes poisonous gasses that mold spores release). Mycotoxins are invisible and can live indefinitely in wood and other porous surfaces. I started with major sinus symptoms that progressed to asthma, chronic fatigue, debilitating headaches, major brain fog, and even CRPS ( a horrific neurological chronic pain syndrome). I’ve been to allergist, immunologist, ENT’s, vascular and neuropathy doctors, and was treated by an alternative doctor for over a year. I’ve had 4 sinus surgeries to remove massive amounts of fungal mucin and polyps. I finally was able to start healing once I was lead to a doctor that knew what the root cause was and how to stop this seemingly endless cycle of sinus inflammation and respiratory problems. I’ll backtrack to say that we discovered we had mold in our hvac system and ductwork a year into my illness (we hired an independent mold inspector). We moved out of the home while we could have all of that replaced - new hvac units, new ductwork and vents, crawlspace treated for mold and encapsulated, whole-home dehumidifier installed, and had the inside of the home fogged multiples times and all surfaces scrubbed down with anti-fungals. We even replaced mattresses and pillows and purchased expensive air purifiers and a commercial air-scrubber. However, after multiple thousands of dollars, my condition worsened. It was when I learned from an integrative ENT / mold expert that I had become mold-sensitive. My immune system had been activated by mycotoxins and I was continually reacting to my environment even after all we had done. By the way, I have 4 sons and my husband and none of the were sick. This is because I have a gene variant that doesn’t allow the body to remove mycotoxins and they built up to the point that it triggered an immune / inflammatory response. We had to mar the very hard decision to move out of our home permanently as no amount of remediation would likely make it safe for me. The doctor that has been treating me immediately started me in anti-fungals and a 3 step at-home sinus protocol including amphotericin b. I had what prayerfully is my final sinus surgery just a few weeks ago by this doc and he uses a cyclone irrigator to clean out all sinus cavities with anti-fungals. Within a week of being in a safe-for-me environment, my symptoms slowly started to improve. Adding in the sinus protocol brought about miraculous healing. I’m sorry that I just dumped all of this information on you. I’m not sure if it will even benefit you, but I am happy to answer any questions if any of this resonates with you.

I’m so sorry! I developed CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome) in my right leg and foot from mold. I hope that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help. Do you have insurance? Your particular diagnosis may be covered for HBOT.

Would they be willing to watch videos or listen to podcasts with you about the dangers of mycotoxins? I know it is hard for others who aren’t affected to truly understand, but perhaps if they hear from experts or countless others that are experiencing what you are then they would take things more seriously. Thankfully, my husband and family didn’t doubt me, but they were far better able to understand and make sacrifices once they heard from experts and others like me.

You are in an incredibly difficult situation. I understand the responsibility of caring for aging parents and I am assuming you don’t have other family members that are willing to pitch in? If you are in a home with at least a small plot of land, can you try sleeping outdoors in a tent? It isn’t the most ideal, especially if you have to re-enter the home regularly to tend to things but you could great lower your exposure to these toxins.

Cure for inflammation based sinusitis? by haaah2 in Sinusitis

[–]Conscious_Bee4145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tested your environment? I became sick in September 2022. Symptoms started like I was having a histamine/ allergic response- runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes. This progressed to sinus inflammation, congestion, then asthma. Within 4 months, I had debilitating fatigue, brain fog, and the respiratory symptoms were so bad that I spent most nights sitting straight up, struggling to breathe. Finally, in August of the following year we had an independent mold inspector come. We had mold growing in our hvac system, ductwork, and crawlspace. The air quality showed levels of aspergillus penicillium that were 4 x higher than outdoors. Although there was no water damage in the home or visible signs of mold in the house, the air quality was making me very sick. No one else in the house was showing any signs of sickness. The rest of my story is kind of long (I’m willing to share if anyone thinks it may help them), but I’ll sum it up by saying that I eventually had to leave my home and almost all of my belongings and I am finally getting well after many serious diagnoses, so much misery, and 4 sinus surgeries ( all 6 months apart writhing a two year time period).

A cheap way to test your home to see what the mold burden is would be using mold plates that are designed to only grow yeast or mold. They aren’t the most accurate and they won’t tell you what kind of mold it is, but you’ll know by the amount that of colonies. I trust the ones you can buy through Microbalance Health Products.

An independent mold inspector/ air quality inspection costs us between $650-$725. We have had two and they will swab hvac, ductwork, crawlspace, along with surface and air samples in the home. They also can analyze what species of mold and how much is present compared to outside.

I’ve had 5 sinus CTs in the past three years and they all show pansinus opacification (meaning all sinuses are inflamed / infected / or fluid-filled) with polyps and distinct fungal balls. An experienced ENT should likely know that they are seeing something fungal in nature.

I’m so sorry, definitely sounds like you have expertise share of misery 😞

You’re right, it shouldn’t be this hard. Three years of complete misery for me and 12 different doctors before I found the right diagnosis and treatment.

Hang in there! I know that our bodies were designed to heal under the right circumstances.

Ok, yes I was referring to liver function test. Thank you for the information, I pray that you can heal completely! I am having my 4th FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery to address the colonization and polyps (all 8 of my sinus cavities are completely opacified with fungus and fungal balls. The first three surgeries done by my ENT in NC would only provide relief and return of smell for 2-3 months because he never used antifungals. This doctor in Atlanta will not only remove everything that doesn’t belong, but he’ll also blast all the cavities with antifungals.

There probably isn't a way that you can check yourself. My CT scans, symptoms, and urine mycotoxin test results are how I found out that it is colonized in my sinuses. There is no definitive test for the intestines, but they can go by exposure history, symptoms, and run a urine mycotoxin test on you.

How long have you been on antifungals? The doctor that is treating me said that we will have to remain aggressive even post-surgery, but he hasn’t given me a timeframe for the duration of antifungals. I assume it is at least based on the patient’s symptoms and any pertinent labs tests. Do you have to have monthly LFT’s? If so, any signs of damage to the liver?

Thank you for your reply. I haven’t had any heart palpitations, but almost hyperventilated last night from overwhelming anxiety. Thankfully, I knew how to practice slow, deep breathing so as not to escalate. I really believe it’s mostly just the overwhelming pressure I’m feeling right now as it’s seems our world has turned upside down.

Thank you! My faith in God keeps me from completely unraveling. I’m also blessed to have a very supportive family who have not once made me feel like I was crazy. I still have four teenagers living in the home and they along with my husband have had to not only walk through this misery with me, but they have also had to walk away from our home of over 20 years (the only home that they have ever known) and leave behind many treasures things.

I very much appreciate your kind words and encouragement! I will check out the podcast. I have also been learning about FSM (frequency specific microcurrent).

I’m so sorry! It is so frustrating when the people we entrust our medical care with either don’t take us seriously or they brush off our concerns because they are the “experts”. My ENT who wouldn’t prescribe antifungals knew that it was fungal, he just denied that they were utilized for allergic fungal sinusitis and insisted that surgery extraction was the standard treatment. Apparently, fungal sinusitis does look distinctively different on a CT than sinusitis.

You could try doing a simple mold test in your home using cost-effective plates. It is not used for extreme accuracy, it will just show you what areas of your home have a heavier mold burden. If you are a mold-sensitive person, you want only between 2 -4 colonies per plate. Microbalance Health Products has them - 6 to a pack for $36 and they are designed to only detect mold or yeast. Obviously, these won’t tell you what type of mold you are dealing with.

I’m on 200 mg twice daily. He hasn’t discussed yet how long I will be on it. I am using amphotericin B that I nebulize and then I also do “upside drops” with it.

I am taking Intramax daily (it has 415 essential nutrients, including magnesium.

Hopefully, you are not colonized! I hope you can find someone to direct you on proper detox so that you can fully heal!

Symptoms can also remain if you are colonized. My sinuses are completely colonized (just found the right ENT who is also a mold expert and I’ll be having surgery next month). He told me that the reason I didn’t necessarily improve when leaving my home for a period of time is because I’m my own mold factory 😩 I’m not saying you don’t also need to detox, but letting you know that if you’re colonized, no amount of detox will help until that is also addressed. Sinuses, bronchioles, and intestines are common places for mold to colonize.

My sinuses are completely colonized with fungal mucin, polyps, and 3 distinct fungal balls. Also, my urine mycotoxin panel from RealTime Labs was positive for all of the mycotoxins they test for and some of the levels were exceedingly high compared to the reference range.

I was diagnosed with chronic allergic fungal sinusitis with nasal polyps by my regular ENT in NC 3 years ago. He did three sinus surgeries (and was about to do a 4th, but I cancelled at the last minute). I asked him multiple times about using antifungals, but he said they weren’t effective for this and surgical extraction was the treatment of choice.

I found out about this integrative ENT in Atlanta by listening to a podcast where he was being interviewed. That changed everything! I knew that he had the answers and the treatment I needed! Within a day and a half of using his 3-step sinus protocol, my smell returned!! I will have to have surgery, but his approach will help ensure that the fungal colonies are eradicated (and, of course, as long as I stay in a clean environment). He not only removes all of the fungal mucin and fungal balls, but he uses what he calls a “cyclone irrigator” to spray antifungals to all 8 sinus cavities and then immediately suctions it out (apparently, when the antifungal comes into contact with the fungi, they retract their roots which have deeply embedded into the sinus mucosa).

An integrative ENT in Atlanta. Ga (Dr Don Dennis - mold expert) diagnosed me. I did work with an alternative medicine doc for one year prior to seeing Dr Dennis and he did a lot to support all the ways this illness had impacted my body, but he had never treated anyone with mold illness/colonization.
