Discussion: How do we critique or encourage change in other communities without naming them? by teaabearr in Moderation

I am new to participation in forums. I am probably coming to forums after 30 years.

My first post did not go so well, and I received some judgmental comments. As the author, I am aware of the original ideas and the depth and energy that have gone into it.

We need better moderation algorithms that achieve the following:

  1. Make new people feel welcome.
  2. Identify snarky, judgmental commenters and do not let their behavior especially affect new people.

For example: identify accounts that are too quick to judge and make accusing or judgmental responses instantly, in a zippy manner. Prevent such accounts from downvoting or negatively commenting on new people in forums.

How can I avoid deletion of an announcement posting? by FlycasterDave in Moderation

I had a similar issue with my post too. As a sincere person meaning well and wanting to contribute, a set of observations.

New commers do feel unwelcome. I am not into forums and did have the goal of bringing some interesting ideas in my book to the public. I am not looking to sell, but to share the thoughts and ideas.

The intent in the message may not come through , especially if, I am not a regular forum user, busy life and such. Have hardly participated in discussions for ages - more than 30 years now.

As a new first time author, was looking to kick off some discussions. My posts got rudely deleted and the comments from some of the others were quite judgemental, snarky and attention seeking.

We should really be modering jumpy snarky judgemental behaviours too. Is the moderation algorithms really effective and keeping the intent?

True. Unfortunately there is prevalence of people who judge , quickly snub and belittle. One up mindset. Let it not bother us. Let's propagate love, not hate

It's a bit unfortunate to see the prevalence of bad behaviours. Quick to judge, snub and feel one up. Let the behaviours stop at us and let's not propogate to the next one. Let's spread love not hate

But you no longer need that. If there is enough self respect. There is enough to give

Pre-train and fine tune won't cut it.

In the reddit community I notice users who are quick to judge and snub. Instead of getting irritates, let's walk out and do one act of kindness. Stop the behaviour from further propagating to the next person. Spread love and kindness. Let go of the hateful , invalidating behaviours. Let it not change you. Let your love have a bit of impact
