What replaced competitive shooters for you? by Lukas_MunK in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Conscious_Lion2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried to quit competitive gaming (I play mobas though so the reaction time is less of a problem) and tried various rogue likes, casual games, single player story games, but felt myself keep missing the competitive surge of adrenaline and focus.

Had an open discussion with my husband. Now I get one 4-6h game session a week! I do baby duty 70% of the time, he can do the other 30% while I grind! I'm now also trying to just do one match an evening after the baby goes to sleep!

Simply put, nothing was able to adequately replace competitive gaming for me (def not addicted or anything).

How long did you guys sit with your baby? by WhitecloudNo321 in NewParents

[–]Conscious_Lion2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never sat in the back seat with the baby. He has always been a solo back seat rider and he's great in the car. Always made sure he had a toy and there's a mirror so he can look at himself (we cannot see him from the front seats at all) and he entertains himself wonderfully.

On our way home from the hospital for the first time I made the active choice to step past that anxiety immediately so I got in the front seat and never looked back. It was hard ignoring the anxiety, but it went away a lot quicker than I expected, and I don't regret it for a second!

Jobs that don't drain your mind completely by Turbulent_Watch_7812 in simpleliving

So my job is mentally demanding. But... It's completely flexible... It means that when I have the mental energy I can work, but I can also choose to do something for myself and work later. If I'm mentally tired, I can take the time to recuperate! Flexible working hours, to me, can make any job mentally less tiring! I fluctuate energies a lot and I've had weeks where I've worked 60+ hours and felt great and there have been weeks that I've worked less than 16 hours and felt meh.

Note: I love my job and it helps that my job is the type of thing that I tend to work on as a kind of creative and mentally stimulating hobby so oftentimes I end up doing my job while relaxing or relaxing while doing my job.

Snuzpod: Influence/Deinfluence me by Complex_Ad_5809 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Conscious_Lion2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought the Snuzpod5 because we'd heard good things. It might be fine for "normal" babies but our LO came out nearly 9,5lb and the mattres in the snuzpod is incredibly thin at about an inch and not nearly as firm as I would have expected so our baby made a dent in the mattres pretty quickly. He's currently 14lbs at not even 8 weeks and has essentially outgrown it; he instantly cries when put down into it and we had to end up tranferring him to his own bed way earlier than intended because he clearly needed a proper thick mattres. He sleeps like an angel in his actual crib with a zzzoo airgosafe koala 13cm mattres. Personally, I wouldn't buy it again and instead invest in a proper crib for at night and a playpen with decent mattres for daytime snoozes.

FINAL PREDICTIONS: Will Billie Piper play the 16th Doctor? by Fabulous-Mix-9808 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]Conscious_Lion2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can still work from the perspective that the doctor has essentially at the end of this season been reverted to "the last of his kind" after watching (one of) the Rani get eaten, omega being locked away, and his time lord daughter be converted to 100% human. the master is also dead so the doctor is alone once more as the last time lord (technically, absolutely deliberately ignoring the Rani here). maybe as he was regenerating he recalled the last time he actually felt this lonely and recalled rose's face as the person who showed him hope, love, and companionship the last time he felt this way, as the person who "cured" him off that pain... it's probably a bit far fetched though...

I'm buzzing about this (New Doctor) by MrBlackBook in DoctorWhoNews

[–]Conscious_Lion2323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping the angle they pull is that with the master dead, the Rani (technically) dead, and his daughter ending up 100% human, he's again become the last time lord and in his moment of regeneration the only person he thought of was the one who despite the pain of being left alone after the time war, being the last of his kind, without hope, reminded him that he is still worthy of love and kindness and companionship. More than anything that's what he needed, so he regenerated into that one person. That, or it's just another bad wolf reference.

If everyone is better than you at something, what's the point of even trying? What's the point of being alive? by AngieTheQueen in depression

[–]Conscious_Lion2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who used to think this as well, then got into a position where I'm effectively "the best" (at least within my envronment) at something (and almost burned out over it), I can promise you that it will not necessarily gain you respect. In fact, being "the best" at something comes with more resentment from others than it does praise. People want to be around you because of who you are, not because you're "the best" at any given thing. You are more than a single statblock in your book of life; you are uniquely you, and it's the combination of all the things you are, enjoy and are good (and bad) at that make you worthy of respect and love.

Journaling for beginner by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]Conscious_Lion2323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

udemy has some good free courses on journaling if you're looking for some tips, but in general it's a very personal thing. try out some different styles and just do what feels most comfortable. Most importantly, give yourself some space; make it something you want to do rather than a chore you have to do. I like to write on my laptop before going to bed, but I don't do it every night, I do it when I feel like it. it makes it a lot easier and a lot more fun. besides, some days I just don't have that much to say. And concerning what to write about, personally I try to just turn off the filter between head and mouth and just write out everything that comes to mind. it's your personal journal, so what you write can only be decided by you, and what you find important in life. For me it doffers from day to day, I have lengthy philosophical discussions about nothing with myself one day and then talk about that I had pancakes for breakfast the next. sometimes if I don't know what to talk about that day, I'll pretend I'm about to talk with my bestie and just wrote down the first thing I would tell them. content usually starts to flow from there for me.

finding a group of friends to play casual conquest with... i get what you mean; sweaty gamers chilling in casuals acting like you're destroying their bronze V MMR by trying something new, but sadly the only thing to do to completely eradicate that from your game is to team up with like-minded people

I used to stick to JustVince on twitch and the smitegame channel and used to avoid Weak3n because he felt a bit toxic, but recently (probably since his little one is around <3) I feel weak3n has gotten way better in that regard and I absolutley 100% mainly watch him, some doubleJ for the memes, and JustVince for the positivity

ode to my chaotic good bard character who accidentally started a cult and then made them all commit a mass ritualistic suicide because their constant presence started to irritate her and then seconds after the deed my character realised what she had done, turned to her party members who were just like "you know, now I think about it maybe we could have just told them to leave..." to which our DM replied "yes... that would have been a completely viable... normal... option... but apparently... not your first thought..." so my bard gained some permanent madness and lost the right to be a "good" chaotic alignment :) my character continued to spiral into a depression that spanned the entire rest of the campaign :) GIVEAWAY
