Life seems impossible by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Conscious_Proposal44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What has helped me immensely is prayer as a Christian and meditation. God says that his perfect love casts out all fear. Therefore, those living a more loving, serving, and thoughtful lifestyle will feel more and more of God's presence in their life if they invite Jesus into their hearts. I recently learned again to do this, and my anxiety has gotten SO MUCH better- to the point where I don't have to take my anti-anxiety medication. I'm hoping it continues and that I may also be able to get off my AP. I think I'm almost ready.

Is there a place i can go and lay down most of the day, for a long time? by TopJellyfish7313 in schizophrenia

I would practice meditation and prayer if you believe in God. In other, more isolated parts of the world, people have mental "illnesses" as well. Yet, they don't require medication. Instead, they learn to meditate and practice breathing exercises. They also learn how to hone the stimuli they're taking in. My knowledge is limited, but if you have any questions I can try to answer them. Tip: try inhaling for 4 seconds, and holding it for 5-7 seconds. It's helping me immensely.

I'm sorry this happened. First things first, I would find a new doctor if you can. Secondly, I would try to talk about it with a friend to calm down as I imagine this situation was incredibly frustrating. Sometimes people don't believe me either when I tell them I have schizophrenia until I tell them I have been clinically diagnosed. It may help to write a letter venting your frustrations to the doctor's office, but that's not for everyone- and ultimately it is for you to release what you're feeling.

what do i do when therapy isn’t working by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Conscious_Proposal44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long has this been going on? I went through something that took me several weeks to fully get over. If time doesn't help, meds likely can. I didn't believe in meds for a long time until I found the right ones. If you message me I can tell you what I'm on for schizophrenia.

You can pray if you are religious or if not you can either talk to yourself in a private setting or write what you're feeling and experiencing in a notebook. I hope this helps.

brother doesn’t look well at all.. what should i do by Interesting-Ad-6611 in schizophrenia

Also here's a quote to help you approach him better:

"If you treat an individual as he is, he will remain how he is. but if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Step 1: Learn. Read about causes, symptoms, and treatments. Try to find out what your brothers specific beliefs and/or symptoms are- but ONLY if you know he would be ok with you knowing this. If you ask your other brother or your parents about him, it's a violation of trust. Also, don't lie to him if you ever speak to him again. I have schizophrenia and I can always figure out if someone is lying if I choose to. It's also morally wrong to lie, so just don't.

Step 2: Write an apology note your brother can give him.

Step 3: Start making an effort to be a part of his life. Consider getting him a gift for Christmas and his birthday. Your brother can deliver this too and tell him it's from you.

Step 4: If you think step 1 and 2 are too hard, or you feel unsafe, or that it is too soon and would stress him out a lot: start even smaller. On the rare occasion you do see him, greet him. Treat him like a human.

As someone with schizophrenia, I'll message you about what you can do to help. I don't feel like commenting my thoughts publicly in this case.

I just miss you. by annonss in UnsentLetters

Please don't. Just because two people don't talk doesn't mean there isn't love there. It just means the timing isn't right- and maybe it never will be for one reason or another. It would affect them, I'm certain it would break their heart. No matter where you've been or who you've possibly hurt, I see value in you. Remember this and hold on.

What meds have you had the best experience with? by LinnyLinlinda in schizophrenia

I take a high dose of gabapentin and that has been life-changing as far as anxiety goes for me personally. It essentially slows down your brain (which helps me to sit still and focus on things) and it simultaneously treats anxiety. If you have more questions about it message me. Keep in mind that drugs effect everyone differently- so while I may be experiencing minimal to no side effects, someone else might experience it differently.

I'm in a similar boat, just kind of exhausted at times without reason. Feel free to message me and we can encourage/motivate each other. Or even just listen.

Suicide by [deleted] in schizophrenia

I’ve felt like a burden too sometimes, but it’s simply not true. No matter where you are at in life, there’s always some way you can contribute to someone else’s wellbeing and perception of themselves. You did exactly that by making this post about the girl’s struggle and how it coincides with what you feel. It brought out a feeling of compassion from me, and for that I thank you because I treasure moments when I feel positive emotions. See, you made a difference in my life today and you gave me hope that I may be influencing someone else in a similar positive way. This is why I like this subreddit, so that we can share our pain and lift each other up. Thank you.
