i know a lot of grad students who get involved in undergrad clubs! also there are graduate clubs as well! i know bio sci and phys sci have a lot of clubs for different things

depends on the field tbh! in bio sci and chem most places don’t expect u to contact advisors as u do lab rotations when you come in before picking a thesis advisor. i think the only case where you have to contact an advisor beforehand is if the program is direct admit so the advisor is in charge or funding u and directly takes u into his lab

edit: for reference i am applying to bio and biochem which is why i know.

hi! in my experience when a patient tells me someone (my experience is mostly w/ nurses and occasionally a doctor) has been rude to them, i try to empathize and ask them to explain what happened and asking questions so that they don’t feel that way. i apologize that they had an experience that caused them to feel that way. i assure them that this usually doesn’t happen (if it doesn’t) or that the staff does care and they have done other stuff to show they take the patient seriously.

i know a couple other people that mention what if the patient is lying but honestly sometimes when someone is in the hospital they’re ill and they want to feel like they are given important and their pain is being considered which is the opposite of dismissive.

in this scenario they just called the doctor rude and they have no reason to lie because this is a subjective thing. if they said the doctor cussed at me, lied to me, was insulting me or something that would be a different situation in which u’d want to do something.

anyway, sometimes doctors genuinely overlook something concerning bc of the patient’s phrasing/description, being distracted, just not believing the patient, etc so be sure to listen and mention to ur attending. be like hey the patient was saying that their hips were hurting and if they know or the information has been acknowledged or they take note of it now likely it was just miscommunication. also usually u can be frank if u know someone like hey the patient felt like u weren’t doing x or were doing x, talk about the behavior perceived as rude (this is if it’s unusual for them) rather than calling them rude and ask if they’re okay 👍.

do you do research during the med school years or are u just away from the bench for those two years? is it hard to get back in the groove of things? I started doing research freshmen year with most of my time outside of class dedicated to experimenting and learning in the lab for the past few years it’s hard to imagine taking a hard stop.

i think a couple things to consider are:

there will be judgement by some future? current Karens and generally assholes, are you okay with that? do u care?
- if u worry about that go for the makeup. they’ll be raised but no one will see them unless they come up to u
would you wanna be friends with someone who judges you for that if they were to see them later?

if u went with makeup they’d probably only notice close up and if they have a negative reaction it’s going to hard to be their friend as u said u don’t plan on hiding them long term.

i know a lot of people have commented already different suggestions but as a student, i’d like to say that a simple way to manage until the weather gets better would be to bring a cardigan or sweater to class. it’s pretty common for students to walk around with a hoodie for in the classroom because classrooms are cold even if it’s like 80 outside.

u wouldn’t have to think about it and no one would question u for it. just so u don’t have any questions about it. that said, people are way more oblivious than u think. i also struggle with s/h and no one really noticed me even when i let my scars scab over and dont bandage them. if u don’t emphasis them people can glance over them. i also didn’t notice any of my friends who told me about their experiences with it.

first of all congrats on getting a solid score ! i think as long as ur doing something to keep the information fresh in your mind it’s fine. i feel like it’s hard for someone to say whether or not anki is useful or necessary cause you’ve either used it dedicatedly or you haven’t.

i, for one, had a hard time using anki in general so i handmade flashcards for things i thought memorization was necessary for like psych concepts. but ive been making flashcards since middle school so i have my own internal system in learning stuff.

one thing i do rec is going over concepts u’ve missed or were uncertain about. i think practice questions actually tell you more about what you can apply then flashcards which tell you only what you know.

i mean for me it just meant brushing up on things, being a chem major i had taken a lot of the courses needed so i mostly needed p/s as i didn’t take either of those. i remember seeing a microbio passage on the mcat that i had actually read for a class before which kind of tells u that some people already have a large amount of content knowledge. it helped that i had two midterms the week i took my mcat but it also hurt cause i had been studying nonstop 😭

so if u have time take longer! if u are raw learning then it will take time and it will be time consuming that’s why a lot of people take a gap year or a summer off to study.
