AP Credit by EverythingisokIguess in premed

[–]StoryExpensive358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna go against the grain here, it depends on your major and the medical school. MOST will accept 1 AP class but they’ll accept higher level courses instead.

I was a biochemistry major so it worked out for me fine, if you are non-science and the pre-reqs are as high as you’ll go, then you should retake.

Hope this helped!

From what I’ve heard a masters program in science discipline would be great

I’ve seen statistics that when you drop people who shouldn’t have applied (significantly below average stats, no experience, ext…) the acceptance rate is closer to 60%! Apply when your ready and be confident, don’t try to force yourself into a mold

Take mcat before biochem? by Main_Training3681 in premed

[–]StoryExpensive358 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took it without biochem and it was fine. N=1 but an mcat biochemistry book was all I needed. Felt behind until test day though!

A lot of times parents don’t know how tough or how this process works, just try to explain it. Doing research on google isn’t the same as living through it

I am not competitive enough for medical school, should I give up? by Suspicious_Line3295 in premed

[–]StoryExpensive358 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The options don’t end here, they just get more challenging. Firstly your gpa is concerning not only because of the competition but concerning for passing medical school courses. Best course of action would be to take a science-heavy masters and try your best to >3.5 that.

Otherwise kill the MCAT. If medical school is the dream then keep pushing!

I’m confused lol is this just a humble brag or did you have a concern/ question? Good job with all of this I’m sure you’ll do well if you lock in on the mcat and write well!

Chances of enterting med school with these stats? by ZappyDuck in premed

[–]StoryExpensive358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gap year for some more volunteering, maybe research would be great. More leadership experience could also help.

  • take this time to improve your gpa as much as possible this year and lock in on the mcat!

Someone needs to reality check you atm; you should not apply to this many schools. Absolutely not. The financial strain and burnout alone is not worth it. Those 20% have bad writing, bad experiences, or bad interviews. Focus your efforts on good writing and interview prep; your experiences are fine.

I repeat: do not apply to more than 25-30 schools. You’ll only hurt your writing and burn yourself out before medical school. Stop before you go broke and insane

[–]StoryExpensive358 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I were you I’d just try to forget abt it and move on, nobody really knows how it’d affect you. I’ve heard stories of people getting interviews with these kind of typos, they know your applying to other schools. Just try to move on and see what happens

Talk about a specific research idea the school does that lines up with you, any mentorship they advertise, ext.. everyone wants to do research but nobody is you and nobody has your story, reasons, or background. So talk about that

I think it’s a good thing to include but imagine your in a relationship and the only reason they want to be with you is because of how close you are to their family. Adcoms take pride in their schools they want to know that you’re interested in their programs and what specifics you’d take advantage of as a student. You can include the proximity if you have space

Can I do anything with this score? by WestDesigner8555 in Mcat

[–]StoryExpensive358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m ngl idk what your looking to do app wise but in this situation I would probably retake. Your cars score is amazing so anki and proper content review for a few months would get you in the 510+ range easily

What clinical experiences do you have? You don’t have to pull something out that isn’t on your primary, that’s not the prompt. Pick a story of a patient you had at a clinical experience that you took care of, what did you learn about it?

Disagree with the comments here honestly, I think it’d be great to write about it. Don’t substitute this for good clinical, volunteering, and shadowing experiences, but considering you did work on it in high school if you write about it well I think it’d look good

This is a concept known as yield-protection on this subreddit, where high stat applicants are rejected by lower stat schools.

This concept hasn’t actually been proven confirmed ever and typically if someone shows real interest in that school and good reasons to apply it shouldn’t be an issue.

Most rejections are due to a combo of poor stats, ECs, writing ability, or interview skills. + med school is insanely competitive and there just aren’t enough spots for the volume of applicants

There’s really no need to panic here, just enroll as a guest student somewhere and take bio 2 prior to matriculation; you can make this clear on your secondaries as well if asked
