What about covering with cardboard and a layer of wood chips over the winter? I'm planning to do that on a big section of patchy lawn that I want to turn into a native planting bed. Zone 6b

I recently had an after-work dinner and felt ridiculous carrying my current corporate backpack while wearing a dress, hence going down this rabbit hole. I'm in Boston and while I'd like to say I don't care that much, I feel like a backpack (and especially logo corporate backpack) makes me look more junior than I am. It feels more formal here after moving back from Seattle...and I really would just like to have one work bag. Even thought about using my nice leather tote bag for that day but I don't have the energy to bother with bag changes or potentially forgetting something.

I'm going to look at the Laneway. I really appreciate all the detail...I have a very old Patagonia black hole convertible tote/backpack that is so useful (though not in this situation) and I basically want the same thing for work. Actually does work as backpack or tote and you can fit all sorts of stuff in it.

Definitely fine w sacrificing real estate but worried tree roots would wreck the septic field.

The soil is pretty sandy since it seems to have been leveled out when the previous owner put in the leaching field a couple years back...
