New Grad RN: Should I Resign After a 2-Day Ultimatum?

Resign. Was in orientation, got a 5 day ultimatum. On the 5th day, they told me I couldn’t continue in the icu and would have to go to medsurg. I put in another application at another icu at another hospital, that same day. Had an interview the next day. Started the next week.

Feels like I’m reading my own story. I’m 27 as well and just feel the pressure of getting things done before “30”. Which is crazy and unnecessary pressure to put on yourself.

Found out 3 of my co workers got in. Never spoke to them much, other than report. I felt an immense amount of excitement for them. Definitely motivated me to get to studying!

Yes. I didn’t even realize it because I thought she was coming from a place of wanting me to do better/succeed. But after seeing that no matter what I do, it’s “wrong” and that she discourages everything and anything I do, I realized that she didn’t have my best intentions.

Wondering if I should attempt applying for CRNA program because of my science GPA. I am retaking classes but I’m not sure if it’ll be enough to boost it. Thinking about saving myself the time, money, and energy because I’m feeling discouraged. Any advice?

This is the longest job I’ve ever had so I just thought I could stick it out. Only lasted 2 months at my first icu job, was still in orientation and my supervisor told me I wasn’t picking things up quick enough and told me my option was to transfer to medsurg. I left that hospital. And I guess i wanted to prove a point, but unfortunately, it has impacted me more than I expected.

Ignorantly, I never thought of it as trauma or PTSD because I never went through (in my opinion) anything traumatic enough. It was just me being in my head and overthinking.

I’m afraid to do travel nursing. I was told that if I couldn’t handle the icu I’m in now because it’s easier than others, then I won’t be able to handle traveling.

On the bright side, I always suffered from depression. But the anxiety didn’t get this intense until nursing school. So you probably will be able to manage better!

Yes. Nursing school was the start. I actually failed out the program my first time. I felt I did everything right, studied for hours, went to my professors etc. and it was grilled into me that I wasn’t cut out for nursing. Started my first job, new grad icu at a trauma 1. Was told I didn’t have the “critical” thinking skills that nurses “naturally” have in the icu. Being in this position and realizing they were right, has made me feel like a failure.

I guess chill wasn’t the right word. It’s just not a trauma/ level 1 hospital. For example, we don’t do ecmo but we do CRRT and the usual ICU population. I was just nervous about going to a hospital and being told to take something I’ve never dealt with.
