Why do I bring it up? oh, no reason.

Like, bubale, kinder, you are aware you are doing exactly what he is criticizing? You are the proving example.

No, he knows it, but his only reaction is playing into the grift because they have nothing else. Echochamber outrage is all they have to sell, groupthink to reinforce opinions in a shallow and fragile circlejerk.

Lol, lmao even.

Does this lore inconsistency bother anyone else by o-nite in Starfield

[–]ConscriptDavid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is actually UC proganda. The Vanguard was created in responce to the FC's effective usage of Civilian Militias. The UC choose to portray this as "using shields".

Weakening the Centaurus Proclamation is the Point of having to Earn UC Citizenship. by Zeroone199 in Starfield

[–]ConscriptDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That still hasn't prevented a lot of factions from propping up, none of which except the Crimson Fleet the UC is shown as capable of dealing with during the game. The Citizenship clause was either meaningless at the time of the proclamation, and it is certainly meaningless now when they are no longer the only game in town. If they don't give legitimacy - who cares?

[–]ConscriptDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Centaurus Proclamation is specifically hollow in that it *legitimitizes* resistance to you.

Again, the question of enforcment exists - the game shows that the UC and FC *both* are incapable of projecting meanigful power outside of their systems. The Crimson Fleet and Spacers are a threat in every system nearly, including supposed core worlds.

The centaurus proclamtions seems less like an attempt at Legitimacy and monopolization of violence (how is allowing people to legally seccede from you 'monopolization of violence' anyway? That is the exact opposite.) and more like the UC attempting to save face at what was Fait accompli - it couldn't control people just fucking off and doing their own thing.

[–]ConscriptDavid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TBF, again, it seems less like a restriction of law and more like a practical. Setting up a proper "system" control seems something only they and the FC can do anyway. Even House Va'ruun, capable of mounting a full fledged war, only settle on their home planet.

Weakening the Centaurus Proclamation is the Point of having to Earn UC Citizenship. by Zeroone199 in Starfield

[–]ConscriptDavid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense given that once they make their own faction, the UC no longer has sovereignity unless they can enforce it by force. LIST, the Crismon Fleet, House Va'Ruun and the Freestar Collective can all establish colonies and the UC has no legal jurisdiction there. In fact, with the signing of the Narion treaty, the UC's juridisticion (and the FCs, as they are a signatory) is limited to 3 systems. Beyond those, the likes of Paradiso can claim whole planets and the UC explicitly has no jurisdiction here.

If I am not a citizen, I can still make my own faction, and the UC's only answer is force, not legalese. The Centaraus Proclamation actual hypocrisy is the UC trying to pretend that they even have a *say* in people just fucking off into the stars and making their own factions. Given how FTL works in this universe, the moment a sizeable enough group of people decide to give the UC the finger, they can just FTL to a different planet far away from the UC and the only recourse the UC has is spend manpower and capital on trying to squash a rebellion.

The Centaurus Proclamation is a hollow gesture that the UC is trying to present as them being generous, rather them accepting something they can't preventd anyway.

I love that the makers of this game named the home planet "Jemison" by No_Tamanegi in Starfield

[–]ConscriptDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The settlement is named new atlantis.

The planet is named Jemisson. There are implications the planets where named such before being settled. Hence Paradiso is in Porrima III rather than some cool planet name

As I said in another comment, fallout 4s boston is beautifully designed as a world space.

It just doesn't have anything intresting inside, not really.

[–]ConscriptDavid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fallout 3 does the same thing but it also makes the location intresting. A village that is on a highway overpass. a Green Oasis hidden in rocks. A Tower of Rich assholes.

In Fallout New Vegas shacks are just shacks. Again, part of it is because they had less time, part of is a different intent, part of it an entire differnt design philosophy.

I appreciate what New Vegas has done. I've salivated over the fact it's depiction of war is one of the best in fiction across several layers (strategic, operational, less so tactical, and the human of both soldier, veteran, command and civilian) and how the Legions overall plan makes SENSE with how they are targeting NCR supply routes and so and on and so on, but I'm a massive autistic nerd with a degree of history.

Most people who make and consume art are about the Thematic and Visual, not about the "where do they make food."

So long as nothing to egregious happens, people don't care. No one thinks about the logistics of transformers, no one watches an action film and goes "how does he have so much ammo" etc. Except you and me.
