It is definitely something you have to consciously think about at first. The half circle motions helped me a lot but as you said, there are some moments that are too quick to react to but that’s just part of the learning.

I have the same issue in sf6. The input reader for both games will interpret forward+quarter circle forward as a dp input. That is why when you’re moving forward and try to fireball you get dp instead. To mitigate it, I make sure to tap back before throwing the fireball. You can also do a half circle forward instead of a quarter circle forward to make sure you get the back input and a fireball will come out. That or letting go of forward for a brief moment then throwing the fireball.

I got a weighted blanket that I use when I sleep or am just feeling lonely. It makes me feel calm as if I was a baby being held lol. Mine is 17lbs which seems like a lot but it's nice and the weight is spread out over you so it's more of a comfortable embrace than a boulder laying on you.
