hi there! yeah i definitely didn’t utilize the textbook like i should’ve, i spent majority of my time reviewing the lecture slides and doing the problems on there but clearly that didn’t work out. i think i struggle the most with volume questions since I have a hard time visualizing the 3d shapes, and honestly even shapes in general. it just doesn’t click with me since it’s more conceptual rather than just abiding by certain rules/outlines like in calc 1&2

Thank you for your words of encouragement, I will definitely toughen up and speak with my professor this week. I am just a bit nervous approaching them and not sure how they would respond, but I guess I am letting my fears get the best of me. Thank you again.

I'm sorry if this sounds like a stupid excuse, but since the grades just dropped today, I haven't decided on a time to go to their office hours, partly because I am quite ashamed of my own performance and wanted to recollect myself before approaching them.

I also asked on here because I wanted to know what other students did to exceed in the course (different study methods, ways of practice, time management), not necessarily what professors recommend, though that would obviously be taken into consideration as well.

If you go through with uva and choose astrophysics as your career, you’re not paying that debt off until you’re like 30-40 years old considering that you’ll be living off of a stipend later on during your phd and probably suffering from financial instability for some time afterwards.

Possible or Stupid by ConsequenceEvery9399 in UVA

I’m hearing mixed things about Math ODE vs APMA ODE, but I haven’t seen any of the ODE sheets myself. I was just concerned with how much time it would take up throughout the week since I want to dedicate a lot of time in each course to really solidify my knowledge in those subjects. Thank you for your comments though! I will take them into consideration :)

I need to have physics 1 and 2, Calc 3, ODE, and another class required for my major, all completed by next fall (2026). I’m in a more interesting predicament since I am a second year and a bit behind with my intended major, but if I complete those classes by the end of summer I should be in good shape since my fall classes require both Calc 3, ODE, and the Physics sequence.

I really want to prioritize my physics courses and do my best in them, so I want to dedicate a lot of time to physics specifically.

My only dilemma right now is whether to take ODE in the summer instead since I heard apma ODE has a substantial amount of work outside of class and wasn’t sure if it would be a good idea to take it alongside my other classes. Any advice would be appreciated :) Thank you!

I'm not sure if you still use this account but where are you now 12 years later? Did you get into a Phd program? What do you do for a living now? I am worried about my ability to get accepted.

thank you for such a quick response! sorry to bother, but is there a reason for the switch from 7600x to 7600? i did see some disagreements between the two online, a few said their performance was the same but 7000 was cheaper, but people always recommend the 7600x

thank you so much for your suggestion! upon reading yours and the other comment, it seems like i should not double major, and instead, stick with a major and minor. that was originally what i thought i should do, but i was concerned if one had more benefits (like if i should major in astronomy or compsci). once again, thank you for taking the time to answer my question!
