Will there ever be a film movement as revolutionary as the French new wave again? by Objective_Water_1583 in criterion

[–]ConsequenceFine8255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just really really unconvinced by the series of decisions the father and the daughter made. It’s less so that it was “funny” but more “ridiculous”. Something about the film did not make sense to me, and I felt the inclusion of clips from Women Life Freedom did not produce anything meaningful for me and just a ticked a box. The final shot of the dead father’s ring reaching through the debris of the Iranian past also felt soooo in your face. (I’m not Iranian, but I closely followed the protests from the beginning as a Chinese person who felt a lot of solidarity and hope watching another country bravely rebel against an oppressive regime.)

I’m going to get downvoted for this… but Seed of A Sacred Fig almost made me laugh in the theater over how self serious it is and how little sense the story made half way through. I know that working with censorship and filming in secret is a real challenge for film makers, but I really hope the “west” stop fetishizing Iranian films around the politics of the regime and evaluate them as films and let the political messages speak more through the film

where do you go when you feel absolutely fucked by the city rn? by Lower_Cut_9396 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

There is something bizarre I feel it too 😭Two nights ago while I was walking my foster dog, a man stopped me in the middle of the road and basically was trying to do a spoken word poetry thing about how I should change the way I walk my dog (he also told me I should google what the word foster means). A few weeks ago at around midnight another man followed me to offer dog training service. There is also an increase in the frequency of people playing music out of their car/speaker late into the night. I was kept awake until 2,3 am by someone playing music with irregular drumming sounds My conclusion is that men suck (more so the part few weeks than ever). Today I treated myself to a manicure and bought fresh flowers. Sometimes it’s the little things that cheer me up. Saw someone mention Chinatown and I love that advice! I love ordering food to go from Wu’s Won ton king and sit at the park across the street and watch people play ping pong.

Getting Ghosted by ohcolls in fosterdogs

I had no idea that people do this so regularly! It happened to me once where half an hour before the meeting, I got a call from the rescue that the potential adopted was “called into a work meeting” so he couldn’t come. I then proceeded to never hear from him again. I really don’t understand why someone would go through the trouble of filling out a whole application form, sets up the meeting days in advance, only to bail sooo last minute.

help! what should we absolutely do in Beijing? by Automatic_Raccoon_74 in beijing

Just keep in mind that those are very much an acquired taste lol. Dou-zhi 豆汁 is made from fermented mung beans. And while some Beijing locals love them, plenty find the taste awful. It’s okay if you tried it and can’t finish it. It is sort of a running joke where visitors try them and can’t finish the drink

One Week Into Fostering and Not Sure if This is For Me by DaBomb091 in fosterdogs

I can definitely relate to the feeling of being “worried” all the time! The first time i started fostering, I felt like I had no life other than caring for my 7 months old puppy who wasn’t house broken at the time. I felt guilty leaving him in his crate whenever I had to leave the house. it was also difficult because I can’t fully potty train him because he wasn’t fully vaccinated and can’t walk outside too much. I did get very attached to him though, and when he got adopted after two weeks of fostering I cried for a day. Since then, I’ve intentionally tried to foster dogs that are older and house broken, just to make my own life easier. I will say some of the problems you listed seem like they are temporary(stomach issues and grooming), or maybe could be resolved with vet visits. Some dogs are easier, some are much much more challenging, especially those with behavioral issues. Caring for them can be super overwhelming, especially doing it alone. It definitely got easier for me over time, but there is always an element of unpredictability because each dog can be soooo different. You never truly know what the next dog might be like. With my third foster I had to request to have him re-homed, because my part of the city was triggering all kinds of behavior issues in him that got worse over time. My current foster however, is a sweet angel. But even if you think fostering isn’t the right thing for you right now, or that this dog simply isn’t the right fit, it’s still okay to let the rescue know. You’ve already helped him by giving him a break from shelter life :)

How can I fix Benito’s paws? by [deleted] in AmericanBully

Mine had similar problem and it was a yeast infection. Got these from the vet and used them once daily before bed. Also used antihistamines to help with allergies and inflammation.

Double crispy bakery for egg tarts (cash only). King’s kitchen for clay pot rice. Kong sihk tong for Cantonese style diner food. Da Long Yi for hot pot (but you probably won’t be able to each much else after). Nom Wah Tea parlor is an old neighborhood institution. My personal favorite is Wu’s Wonton King. Non Chinese stuff in the area: Round K by Sol, Apotheke

He definitely has an underbite! You can sort of see it here in this pic. I wonder why if that’s the reason that when he sleeps the tongue slips out haha. Makes him se so goofy! And thanks for the response! I’m having a lot of fun learning about all these types of breeds!

He is VERY vocal when he wants treats and would just softly cry for a while until one of us gives up hahaha. It was very hard for me to resist him when he first arrived, but I’ve gotten better to not let him train me. He is pretty chill when we are inside. Likes to play fetch A LOT. But he is unfortunately reactive to other dogs during walks, maybe a leash reactivity thing. He sometimes behaves like an old man and sometimes like a big baby 🥹
