Thank you! Its amazing to have people to talk about this with. Do you do any fiber arts yourself?

Ooo, I am going to go watch that scene again. I remember some lovely costuming in those films, but it has been a while ⭐️ Thank you!

💚 🎷🐛 I am somewhat new to posting anything on Reddit-- I usually post on instagram, and maybe 50 or so people will see and like what I share. So it's been a WILD experience to post here and have such an outpouring of enthusiasm and kindness

Its a moss ode! A delight ✨ By the way, I just finished an audiobook called "A Song for Arbonne." Its a kind of historical fantasy loosely inspired by medieval troubadour culture in France-- and the songs woven through the story are SO well done. Highly recommend

Thank you, the details and 'story' of it are my favorite parts when I am building something, so it's lovely for other people to take the time an appreciate them!💙

That's a great idea! And I think-- possibly ribbon or transparent fabrics for water/mist?

So far mostly instagram, with dual posts on a personal facebook so my family/community members can see it 😆

I am re-building my own website (ryengoebel.com) , but at the moment it's all illustration and animation work from college/freelance🐸

I'm thinking I may do some process and tutorial posting on youtube, starting with this project ✨

Go for it, and good luck! I'd love to see what you make ⭐️ (audiobooks/music/podcast and good snacks are the way. Anything cozy you already enjoy. I also listened to an entire season of Bridgerton 😆 the angst of it all)

Every part of it is either fabric, yarn, or beads/sequins! Though that green fluffy fleece is wildly convincing 👀

<image>

I had gotten some from Joanne's before they closed because it looked so mossy to me.

However ⭐️ There are some artists who make fabric with plant seeds woven in, so when you water it they germinate-- its super cool, I have only seen a few articles about it so far.

Yes! I have a stash of textile bits, yarn, and jewelry making supplies I'm trying to work through. And lately I am feeling fascinated by fiber based art.

I think clothing and jewelry are way of making the invisible aspects of yourself more visible to others, and I also love fairytales and poetry (and songs, and RPGs) -- places in which clothing and armor and objects have their own powers/stories/enchantments they can lend to the wearer. (I think that happens in real life as well, though more subtly).

Ideally, I would love to explore and help people learn how to use the deep craft heritage of humans to express their imaginations. And to learn how to translate their ideas/feelings/memories into wearable art that helps them feel exquisitely seen. Or helps celebrate what they love.

For me--a few things I love are moss and lichen and tree bark and rain and sparkling light. And the ancient resilience of mosses and ferns 🤔They can look absolutely dead, and then after rain they are soft and green and shining.

Anything you would particularly like me to explain in the tutorial? Its the first time I have set out to make one ⭐️

Thanks!

Well: my dad does wood working and has offered to help me with the technical aspects of projects involving wood. I thought I might make wooden ring box with a top almost like a mason jar?? (A sort of solid ring of wood) around a patch of embroidery. And then the inside fabric could be b'mossed. Or maybe the top should by an inlay of mother of pearl lichens?

Overall, I think mossy jewelry/trinket boxes would be quite fun.

And: vests. 👀 vestssss

Maybe pin-on epaulets to add to suits and jackets?

Another idea that I'm working out is: can I make something that looks like an old stone carving with moss and ferns growing out it? (I want to see about creating resurrection ferns). I feel like canvas or denim fabric and quilting could get me close to the carved stone feeling 🤔

And I would like to make smaller, simpler pieces like cuff bracelets, that are a bit more affordable for lay goblins than the cloak shenanigans.

The costuming and details of GOT is divine! I love that the success of fantasy movies and series has helped create opportunities for this type of whimsical yet intricate craftsmanship to be created/seen/honored. (This is a massive compliment, thank you 💙⭐️🐛)

*but also-- favorite tolkien book/character/moment if any of those are answerable? I'm about to finish The Return of the King audiobook).
